The Most Irritating Song Ever Recorded... That You Adore...

I happened to be reading the 'most irritating song' thread whilst listening to Atom & His Package- '(Lord It's Hard Being Happy When You're Not Using The) Metric System'.

This is quite possibly the most annoying song I have ever heard, with its squeaky bloody vocals and its frenetic pacing, but I love it to pieces. I put it on about three times a day. There are a number of other bands (including The Residents sometimes, actually) that do this to me, most recently being this bloody bleepy screechy DAT Politics tune that's scaring me by moving all around my speakers...

So are there any tunes/bands that make you want to throw the stereo out of the window, but that you could not actually live without?

Nothing definite, but I do have a weakness for cheesy house music. Right now, I think Mojo's "Lady Hear Me Tonight" is deliciously annoying.

At the moment, it's "You Suck" by the New Bad Things, which, when Paul first found the record and put them on, used to drive me insane with its annoying Portland Boho Slacker aesthetic. But now I've got it stuck in my head, and I've decided it's actually genius.

JOHN CALE SUCKS! (and he's Welsh)

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I have just discovered that the name of this song is actually "The I Suck".

Kate the Saint, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

that goddamn hamsterdance song. it's been stuck in my head for years now. i hate it. i love it. i... am the hamster.

between the residents, atom & his package and dat politics, you almost have this category covered in it's entirety.

I like "the Birdie Song".

At my sister's wedding the band refused to do the birdie song or allow it to be played. "We have some principles", they said.

Wannabe. God help the mista who finds himself in a bar with a Spice- infested jukebox, cos he WILL hear that song.

Ally, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

My girlfriend has a "thing" for 80s hair metal *and* Spice Girls related projects...jezus, it's like I'm dating Chuck Eddy. So, the first song that popped into my head was "Here I Go Again" by Whitesnake. I'm sorry, but that song sounds good in the automobile.

Jess, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Here I Go Again is like the best song ever, I would die to get a copy of that song on one of those Monster Ballads compilations except they always throw in something awful and unlistenable like Stryper on those things and I can't buy it on principal. The only songs close to that good are I Can't Live Without Your Love and Affection by Nelson and Good Vibrations by Marky Mark.

Ally, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

That hamsterdance song is great. Sorry, I can't help it.

Sex Pistols, Friggin' in the Riggin!

Lyra, Thursday, 9 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

For me, it's gotta be Cream's "I'm So Glad."

"Monster Mash", which I even went so far as to track down the original vinyl. I'm a nerd.

I reckon "Oooh - Stick You" was the best song I heard on the radio in the last 10 years. & it's sort of *meant* to be annoying, right?

"Choo Choo Train" by Quad City DJs!!

Tracer Hand, Friday, 10 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love Like a Prayer by Madonna and 18 & Life by Skid Row.

I hate anything by Irish boyband Boyzone, music by AQUA or any artistes that release AQUA's kind of music and Euro-rap. Not my cup of tea.

, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I love the German version of "Barbie Girl". I really like anyone who releases Aqua's kind of music.

Otis Wheeler, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

wow, a German version of Barbie Girl, I *need* to hear that!

duane, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The Russian version is ass-kickin' too.

Otis Wheeler, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Generally all the Beatles' silly songs that everyone hates like Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Bungalow Bill and Octopus's Garden. These are FUN songs FFS!!!!

'Mr Blue Sky'. Sometimes it makes me burst into tears as well.

Doesn't even belong on this thread as it's the greatest pop epic ever recorded.

Melanie, "Brand New Key". Her singing can be cutesy-pie practically to the point where nausea is induced but I'm charmed nonetheless.

And I agree with "How Bizarre". (VERY annoying!)

I don't think When In Rome's "The Promise" gets much love. I don't know if that's the same as it being considered an "annoying song", but I do definitely feel in the minority because I really, really, really like that song. "I'm sorry but I'm just thinking of the right words to say/(I promise)/I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be/(I promise)/But if you'll wait around awhile I'll make you fall for me/I promise you, I promise you...."

I don't think When In Rome's "The Promise" gets much love

you gotta be kidding

I find that nearly every and all 80's dance pop top 40 hits are loved by the masses of gen Y to a certain extent. I say this as someone who is too old to have enjoyed 80's hits, but as a DJ, I had to convert...and this song is in the top 20 songs that just start the party while I'm DJ'ing

It seems it was chosen as the closing song to Napoleon Dynamite out of this gen Y pop nostalgia also.
