Suede are doing 5 nights in London - one album played in its entirety per night with the encores being relevant B-sides from the period

Obviously there'll be a lot of standing room available during the last two nights, but the first three nights (and night two especially) are gonna be AWESOME. And fuck it I'd have been there but... I aint even gonna be in the country when this happens. How shit is that? When will Suede ever play Dog Man Star from beginning to end again?

This sucks.

This would have been the best concert ever.

Calz (Calz), Thursday, 14 August 2003 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

define "relevant".

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 14 August 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

So you're not a fan?

Calz (Calz), Thursday, 14 August 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

when is this?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Suede take over London's Institute of Contemporary Art for a week starting on Monday, September 22nd. The band will play five concerts, each featuring a different Suede album in its entirety, followed by a selection of singles that the audience will choose. In addition there will be an exhibition of Suede art over the years along with other surprises.

Tickets are priced at 15 UK pounds (which includes day admission to the ICA), and are available from Monday August 18th.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I am actually thinking of trying to go to the first 2 nights.

Carey (Carey), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:02 (twenty-two years ago)

i think its a really fun idea. other bands should do it. new order anyone? that is, if they could be bothered to you know, rehearse and whatnot.

bill stevens (bscrubbins), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Heh. They might get a nasty surprise when no one turns up for the fifth night.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I've just heard on the list I run that apparently some tickets are on sale already and that there's been a big screwup. Hm...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 August 2003 20:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed -- here's an e-mail I got:

The venue has a 350 capacity PER NIGHT.
There are over 10,000 registered fanclub members. (last time I looked)
Each fan club member could buy FOUR tickets per night.
The venue only accepted telephone orders.
They had four phone lines.
Most people who could get through bought FOUR tickets for each night.
Queing time on the phones, if you could get a dialling tone, was upwards of
an hour.
Tickets sold out in minutes : DogManStar went in 13 minutes apparently.
So there were propbably 82 people who bought up all the tickets. Oh. No.

There are literally hundreds of people seething at the appalling
organisation, the wholly inappropriate choice of venue, the backwards,
"retro" technology used that caused huge national/international phone bills
to no avail, everything.

I had no idea the ICA was so small. The band know they'd sell out these gigs
at TEN times the size. No-one can understand why they've chosen such
miniscule venues.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 August 2003 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Dog Man Star so much. I envy anyone and everyone who has a ticket to that.

Surely the last two nights haven't sold out though?

Calz (Calz), Thursday, 14 August 2003 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The ICA is tiny! But wouldn't a general search or some intutive sense tell one this when they looked at the ICA page to find out about how to purchase tickets?

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Thursday, 14 August 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

ICA holds way more than that, it's gotta be 600 capacity. BUT THE SOUND CAN BE SHIT. Figure on a massive guest list - which I will be on as Shake Shake Arseboy/his manager owe me one - and some tickets being available on the day (Suede and Coming Up for me).

I also smell DVD so fret ye not if you don't get tickets.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 14 August 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The ICA is def one of the worst-run (ie most punter-unfriendly) 'institutions' in the world

Andrew L (Andrew L), Thursday, 14 August 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

These sales were for the fanclub members only, so that could be part of it...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 August 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

i really hope it isn't true that it's sold out already, but i fear that it has. i was planning on queuing up for tickets on monday morning (i so, so wanted to go to the dog man star one, and the suede one would have been cool too).

:-(

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 August 2003 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Andrew, how do you mean, punter-unfriendly? I've done a load of work for them. As I said before THE SOUND IS SHIT but it's not as if the bouze is *that* expensive and you get to hang around drinking there until 1 am. The gig programming has gotten so much better ever since G@ry W@lker (who founded wiiija) took it over.

Nick played there a few months back, but in the bar, which was so rammed I've no idea why they didn't book him into the actual theatre as opposed to turning at least a hundred frustrated Momus fans away.

Oh and Toby, can you not get guestlist sorted somehow? I haff ways if you can't.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 15 August 2003 06:43 (twenty-two years ago)

STICK IT UP YOUR PUNTER!

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 15 August 2003 07:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Surely you're going for Dog Man Star, suze?

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Cos if not I'm putting on a wig and pretending to be you. The accent may be a challenge, but I'm fairly confident...

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Hang on, didn't Bowie do this with "Low" last year? Good to see Brett's consistent in who he nicks ideas off...

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

*puts on boxing manager voice* "This one's s'posed to be da big retirement score, sheeee?"

Dave M. (rotten03), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and Toby, can you not get guestlist sorted somehow? I haff ways if you can't.

really, suzy?? that would be fantastic! i'm afraid our guestlist powers are rather inferior to yours...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 August 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I want a guest list power show down with suzy...

st cloud cool kid of death, Friday, 15 August 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw The Wedding Present play Seamonsters in its entirety in 1991, with no encore. Is this relevant? Maybe a fraction.

Johnny Jarvis, Friday, 15 August 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

"I saw The Wedding Present play Seamonsters in its entirety in 1991,"

You poor fucker.

"with no encore"

I'm not remotely surprised...

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Friday, 15 August 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd love see TWP do Seamonsters. Brett Anderson always seemed like a bit deluded and foolish so I'll pass on the ICA thing (or I would, if I had a choice).

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, I was trying not to be greedy, of course I'll try for a Dog Man Star night if I can. If you are in Lanhndahhn for this and do not mail me for a meetup, ire will ensue (plus I'll be back from America with fresh oh-gawd-my-family anecdotes).

Toby, have your guest list consultant at least ASK their press office, or just get them to email me if they don't know that hookup already. If that doesn't work I cannot see Ed wanting to go as my plus one and I can choose from three different guest lists so fear not, you'll probably be sorted somehow.

suzy (suzy), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Suze - I doubt I'll be there for this, I'm booked solid in September. I did, however, have a course opposite your flat the other week and totally fail to get in touch - email me your phone number so that doesn't happen again. I bumped into Kay on the street, of course...

Jim Eaton-Terry (Jim E-T), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:28 (twenty-two years ago)

ok suzy, i'm on the case. thanks v much...

toby (tsg20), Friday, 15 August 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

seven years pass...

and again! http://thequietus.com/articles/05577-suede-to-play-albums-live (3 nights this time)

piscesx, Friday, 21 January 2011 13:03 (fifteen years ago)

They should do this with Sci Fi Lullabies
