Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

What a waste of sgrooms dude. Go for it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Yea, I'm beginning to think that too. As hilarious as it seems, I think I probably would just get a headache.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

USA is a Monster is perfect, I swear to you, perfect for that.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:23 (twenty-two years ago)

At least you would be eating vegan.

earlnash, Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I like USAISAMONSTER! But really, the crowd is going to be 121213 high school napoleon-complex "scenesters" with plugs and dyed black hair.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I love them -- they just played here on Sat., and they're converging more and more w/the Black Elf speaks stuff. So the scenesters are probably more likely to have a problem w/them than with you, ho ho.

Is the event straight-edge? If so, the eternal wait between bands might be extra-eternal -- without the opportunity to sit in a corner drinking beer, right?

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Why didn't they just get black hair plugs to begin with?

It will be super weird cause you'll just want to giggle and collapse and everyone else will be scowly and energetic. I say do it, though I always say that.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it is not straight edge at all, but *MANY* of those geeks will show.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You should just go to the zoo.

scott m (mcd), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Take em', but go packing just in case...

Jacob (Jacob), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I snuck a flask of Jack into a Converge matinee show once. One of my proudest moments. Totally go for it.

Tom Breihan (Tom Breihan), Thursday, 14 August 2003 18:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I agree that it's a waste. You should go out and spend some time in nature.

King Kobra (King Kobra), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the zoo.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Jon you're incredible. Where do you get this stuff.

scott m (mcd), Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait until it's a nice day, I'll eat the rest of that acid I have, and we'll go smoke a fatty blunt in the park and giggle like school girls.

Also, if you want to see USAISAMONSTER on the shrooms wait until the next night when they're playing with White Mice, Lazy Magnet, Kites, et al.

Ian Johnson, Thursday, 14 August 2003 19:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Kites on shrooms would make me firebomb Load Records RISD.

Also, we should celebrate this soon on a sunny day in Providence. Like... anytime it is nice ok?

Also, wanna go play Star Trek drinking games or something Fri night?

I did something very similar at a Killing Joke gig many years ago.... Not recommended.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 15 August 2003 07:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Stuff the mushrooms- I wonder what would happen if I take some Alka-Seltzer at a Daniel O'Donnel concert?!?!?

Sub-thread: "Gigs and suitable narcotics"

person#0 (person#0), Friday, 15 August 2003 08:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Why do I use my real name on this? Ok, someone else ate a whole bunch of acid and went to the super crowded punk show once. A fight broke out right in front of him and he casually walked up to the huge skinhead who was about to pound the guys from the suburbs, puts both hands on his chest and says "Hey, they don't understand but I understand....ok?" The big guy, he must have outweighed the tripping guy by 65lbs and had six inches on him, looked at him for about ten seconds or two years, depends on your perspective. Then he said "Your right." and walked out of the show. I'd say the mass transit there and back will be your biggest challenge.

Remember two things, grasshopper:
1. you can't fly
2. you won't see God.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 16 August 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

What with the pictures and all I am wondering if this thread doubles as a mushrooms simulation.

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 16 August 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man, Providence attacks all right. Did you get RISD is what I want to know.

I don't suppose any of you would consider taking some more of whatever it is that suits the occasion and going to the Industrial Fest tomorrow.

daria g (daria g), Saturday, 16 August 2003 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

UPDATE: I still have the mushrooms!

I could take them at the industrial fest, yes. Or Deerhoof?

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 17 August 2003 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

At the industrial fest, I would like to see: Prurient, Emil Beaulieae, Immaculate:Grotesque. I'm not sure who else is playing.. I don't think anyone else stuck out as really great, and as such I'm not sure if I'm going to go. It might be nice to see those guys, however; Emil is great, and Prurient is pretty intense live. There is an awesome Prurient review in the current issue of Blastitude; it talks about making babies ears bleed.

Is Deerhoof Monday? I'd quite like to go to that.

I think tomorrow I'm going to spend my babysitting money at the record store buying local stuff so that I won't go through withdrawl when I move. Suggestions, Providence people?

Ian Johnson (elmo oxygen), Sunday, 17 August 2003 05:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Just eat them now. And drink all the liqor in your cabinet at the same time, then take a notepad and a pen out and interview people about their ideas on US foreign policy. Then take a shit in a mailbox.

Helltime Producto (Pavlik), Sunday, 17 August 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

HEY DARIA: FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP

Jon Williams (ex machina), Sunday, 17 August 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...

(Cue stories of being beaten by well-meaning straightedge youth.)

Okay, since you asked!

So, me and old high school friends decided to get back together. You know how it is. Everybody is at a different college or city for whatever reason, so you pick one central place and go there. We settled on Boone, NC where Rob is. Rob decided on taking us to a party that night -- with bands playing!

Here's an image of the friends I was with. They're big fans of music, but not exposed to very much. They pretty much only listen to 70's drug influenced things like Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, etc. One of them brought his acoustic guitar and ukelele with him, planning on maybe playing instruments with some of the other musicians there. After all, there were 5 bands!

Little did anybody know the strange direction Rob took since going to college. This party wasn't at all what any of us expected. In the basement of this house were a hundred or so kids watching hardcore bands playing -- a phenomenon that none of my friends had been exposed to before. Who were these kids wearing such tight pants? Why are they screaming in the songs? Is that all they do? Why are we the only ones getting drunk? Of course, since we all did a lot of drugs before the show the questions seemed a lot more terrifying for the rest of them, I'm sure.

As soon as one of the kids startes doing roundhouse kicks near my acid-tripping friend, Daniel, he thinks some random kid is trying to start a fight with him. So, being the sensible person he is, he pushes him down. Obviously this other kid is all, "wtf?" and pushes him back. My other friends, realizing one of these weird fucking kids in his tight pants is starting a fight with Daniel, starts getting in there too. John, being as brilliant as he is, punches someone in the face.

At first the "mosh pit" was just 2 or 3 kids punching the air and doing roundhouse kicks. Now, the entire basement is pushing against each other and it turned into an honest rumble. Slowly all of us are dragged out of the house. John, being the small guy he is, is even picked up and herded out as if he was crowd surfing.

What followed was about an hour of apologies, explaining what "hardcore dancing" is and what it means to be "sXe" and how it is a bad idea to do drugs at a hardcore show. We all went back in and listened to the rest of the shitty bands and tried macking on ugly girls.

So that is what happens if you eat an 8th of mushrooms at a hardcore show.
