maybe some cheapo German knockoff thing - I haven't heard of a "legit" box set

IT will include labels from her early 78s and will be wrapped in cotton undies.

Something's actually been mentioned on the board before, but there was nothing concrete.

three weeks pass...
maybe it's that otto van whateverhisnamewas
who tried coining it in flogging her old demos in endlessly
repackaged form in the 80's. remember him ?
actually there's probably already been a box set,
with the playboy photos on the sleeve no doubt.

This is going to sound horribly rockist of me, but is Madonna's core audience really the sort that gives a runny bowl of dung about box sets? Seems to me that box sets cater exclusively to collectors and completists and ephemera-addicted esotericans. Being that Madonna's music has never been the sort wherein the musicianship involved is espeically praised, does the world really cry out for such things? I mean, I don't believe there are bootleg tapes of, say, "Madonna: the Basement Tapes" or "Madonna: The Jam Sessions!" Her work has always been seamlessly crafted pop. What didn't make the cut the first time around was probably jettisoned for good reason (unlike, say, Hendrix noodlings or tapes of Lennon farting around with an acoustic guitar, which fetch countless dollars and are slavishly fawned over).

It's because Madonna is a woman. Nobody wants to hear those outtakes.

</sarcasm>

I know that's a sarcastic remark, but I have friends who've paid handsomely for a Yoko Ono boxset (not me, mind you).

Alex, you're forgetting about remixes, B-sides, soundtrack cuts, stuff that's not available on albums. There are TONS of people who want this stuff all in one place, believe me.

You're also forgetting that she's got a very ardent collector-fanbase as well. Plus the fact that The Immaculate Collection edits down a lot of singles--something I've heard people complain about many, many times. Also, half the parties I've ever been to to thread.

Yeah, I wouldn't mind having a lot of the remixes from Bedtime Stories onward in one condensed package, and possibly modern remixes of 80s tracks as well.
