I think I saw on the telly once (don't know where, don't know when, don't know who) some bloke saying that Blue Monday is the past, CGYOOMH is the future. I presume he was talking about the whole pop-dance hybrid thing.

was it Tony Wilson? surely this is all to do with Kylie's performance at the Brit Awards in 2002 where the two tracks were amalgamted superbly by Erol Alkan and the Dewaele Brothers

Yeh, I think that's what sparked the discussion, but if it is a case of one superceding the other, a mash-up is a cool way of doing it.

I mean, in 1994, if someone said "Name the perfect pop-dance hybrid", chances are you'd plump for Blue Monday (unless you were being obtuse). Now, chances are you'll say CGYOOMH. Is this the case, or has my arse sprouted a mouth again?

i've never been that big a fan of CGYOOMH, tho this has as much to do with my reactionary 'oh everyone loves this, its so annoying' mechanism as the fact that i never felt it was anything that special. 'blue monday' on the other hand remains one of my top 5 songs of all time, probably #1 in fact.

Which Blue Monday? New Order or Orgy? Honestly, I love the Orgy version... thats damn catchy... if its Orgy, give it a tossup... if its New Order, Kylie gets it...

I kind of agree with Matos. Not insofar as Kylie>New Order, but CGYOOMH>Blue Monday. Never have understood why everyone gets all creamy over Blue Monday. Now if this was Tempatation v. CGYOOMH, it would be a very different story.
