I'll have a go at Classic or Dud, partly inpsired by a surprise prime time showing of the video on MTV. So with all the hoopla about its 10th anniversary, the re-mixes: 'Positive Education', Classic Dancefloor Anthem or Mindless Techno Bollocks? (I'll be on the "one of the best ever" side)

It's possible surely for a song to be a Classic Dancefloor Anthem *because* it's Mindless Techno Bollocks ;)

I think it's a good record. Possibly a classic - this is the one with the giving them drugs sample, yes? I'm no good on titles of techno tracks.

Yes, you're of course right Tom. :) The giving them drugs sample is on another classic i think, though the name of the track escapes me at the moment ;) They both were featured on a great double-cd filled with classics a couple of years ago, 'Flux Trax'. In a way the greatest cd of all-time.

classic,

from the summer of 1992 - through 93 and early 94 - progressive house/trance sounds made up a fair chunk of my contemporary listening experiences at the time.

Slam - positive education was a big tune, also another epic tune was David Holmes first incarnation as Disco Evangelists - called de niro - on the positiva label.

also worth checking out Slam headstates album, which was more of a techno direction than their earlier previous prog house/trance. A record that stands alongside the finest Leftfield leftism or Orbital 2.

I know of what you speak... it's the sample "giving them drugs, taking their lives away!", off the movie "From Beyond". Empirion used it... perhaps you're thinking of them?

I looked it up and indeed Empirion's 'Narcotic Influence' uses that particular sample (nice to know its from that movie). 'Positive Education' uses a voice sample but its put much deeper into the mix, it goes on about positive education, of course :)

"POSITIVE EDUCATION... CORRECTS ALL ERROR!!!"

Yep, I've got a copy of it!!! (Probably about thhe only house tune I was actually listening to at the time as the rest of house music appeared to have gone up it's "progressive" rectum!!!!!!)
