Fecal Jesus (mawill), Saturday, 16 August 2003 23:40 (twenty-two years ago)

what song?

didn't they already do a Miller Lite commercial a couple years back?

derrick (derrick), Saturday, 16 August 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I cant remember the name of the track...its off the 'Moon/Antarctica' album...the song where there is someone writing on a chalkboard in the background looped over it. You know which one im talking about?

Fecal Jesus (mawill), Saturday, 16 August 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

You really saw it. I noticed it for the first time last night and am still surprised.

Moss Feaster, Sunday, 17 August 2003 01:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, they already made the commercially-minded move from Up to Epic several years ago. Why would it be surprising to hear them in a Nissan commercial?

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Sunday, 17 August 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

The song is "Gravity Rides Everything" off The Moon & Antarctica. My roommate cursed and stormed out of the room when it came on. I just thought it was weird (but then, I don't really care for MM). Also saw the VW commercial with the Polyphonic Spree song during the same commercial break.

fffv (fffv), Sunday, 17 August 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

good lord what's next? nick drake in a vw ad? the minutemen in a volvo ad? fugazi in a hummer ad?

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Sunday, 17 August 2003 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not surprised that they would do that. I'm not generally surprised by the band making that decision, I had just never really noticed that their sound would be an effective selling sound, if that makes any sense. Of course, I seem to think that way too often nowadays (wasn't "Heroin" recently used in an ad?).

Moss Feaster, Sunday, 17 August 2003 02:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Which was why I found it weird, not because it was MM, just because the song choice seemed awkward. Anyway, thanks to Blount for adding to the thread by being a dick about it. As I remember, John Darnielle had an interesting take on music in commercials, but I can't find the thread to link to.

fffv (fffv), Sunday, 17 August 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

is Nissan trying to annoy their customers?

keith (keithmcl), Sunday, 17 August 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

was Kobe in the ad?

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Sunday, 17 August 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

haha i saw this!! i thought it was a v. nice and soothing commercial (tho it didn't make me wanna buy a minivan)

dude the new swiffer household cleaning products commercial with devo in it roXoRs!!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 17 August 2003 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

hearing the Fall in that Vauxhall ad did it for me. The strange chill of recognition and resentment...

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Monday, 18 August 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Which Minutemen song got used by Volvo?

I wish there were someplace online with all these commercials - I'd like to see the "Heroin"-soundtracked commercial, and the Buzzcocks commercial from years back that I never saw.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 18 August 2003 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I like how they naturally take one line and present it out of context: "Oooooooooh / Gotta see, gotta know right now..." or something. Fucking assholes. Everyone involved. Assholes.

roger adultery, Monday, 18 August 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i love the way every second car commercial uses "Bohemian Like You" so they can use the "you've got a great car" line and ALWAYS leave out the "what's wrong with it today" bit.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 18 August 2003 05:11 (twenty-two years ago)

haha!

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Monday, 18 August 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

is the nissan quest that station wagon/quasi-woody/baby suv they're pitching to gen xers?

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Monday, 18 August 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

hoyl shit! no way [insert trendy indie song here] was in [entirely-lame- to maybe-a-little-lame product]'s commercial, WTF?

branded-with-a-bar-code-alicious (nickalicious), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd sell my sweet sweet ass right out for one of those new minis

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 18 August 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't believe that girl from the Murmurs ('member them?) is in a Beemer commercial. SELLOUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aaron A., Monday, 18 August 2003 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Can commercial directors PLEASE start using good music in adverts again, this is getting unbearable.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"Rock Your Body" is in the Bally Total Fitness commercial, just saw it.

Aaron A., Monday, 18 August 2003 12:03 (twenty-two years ago)

THANKYOU JUSTIN!

Tom (Groke), Monday, 18 August 2003 12:05 (twenty-two years ago)

three weeks pass...
you know i think it was kinda stupid, the whole thing how ppl are all blowing up about this song. i mean yes, its really lame to put a beautiful song in a freaking minivan commercial but some ppl are getting all freaked out for different reasons...theyre afraid of modest mouse's fan base getting bigger which is insane to me. i dont think true fans should be so concerned about the whole underground scene getting mainstream. that doesnt really matter if its supposed to just be about the music they bring. sure music is meant to be shared but in all i think that the whole selling your music to make money is downright pathetic...oh and justin timberlake is an idiot

noey, Monday, 8 September 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

this annoys me because I hate modest mouse, but I kind of like parts of their songs, and this is part of one of the songs I do like, and every time I hear it I think, "Hey, I like that song," and want to listen to it again, and then remember that I hated the rest of the song, the rest of the album, and modest mouse in general. It's very taxing.

anthony kyle monday (akmonday), Monday, 8 September 2003 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

When do we get to see those commercials for the "Intuition" leg razor using the Jewel song? That was a big part of the single's "story." Especially now that it's no longer on the radio, I want to hear this great song on TV!

Sam J. (samjeff), Monday, 8 September 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

two years pass...
well isaac has to make money somehow, its harder than you think making money in the music industry, and i bet all of you sorry asses have lame ass jobs, at least he can make music for a living, who cares if nissan uses his song, its fucking nissan
