Anyone know what happened to Holly Vincent?

I finally got a copy of Holly and the Italians' The Right to Be Italian -- I haven't heard Vincent's solo thang but hear it bit. I fucking love her voice. Mmmm. Is she working in a car wash or something now? I'll cry.

I believe she was in a band called The Oblivious in the early '90's.

I also heard there was a fleeting thought that she could front a Waitresses reunion. (Although that idea was nixed.)

Thanks... Any chance anyone knows whether the Oblivious were any good?

She was also in a band with Jeannette (Concrete Blonde) Napodfghbdhshbvlo, "Vowel Movement" - 1995.

There was a bit of a revival a few years back, as I recall Nils Bernstein from Matador getting behind a reissue of the album or something and trying to get some press going on them. He had apparently tracked down Holly, so I know she's doing something in NYC...

four years pass...

"Rock Against Romance" just came up on random play. Great Cthulhu what a song!

Her cover of I Got You Babe with Joey Ramone was reissued last year. I don't think the Holly & the Italians LP has even been released on CD - although it's not hard to find on vinyl for cheap.

Anyway, Super Rocket Star came out last year. New album being recorded now.

one year passes...

Completely missed that she released an album (Minnesota - California) this year.

five years pass...

I've long loved the Right to Be Italian album, but I'm just now getting into the second one from 1982 that's confusingly released under her own name but titled Holly and The Italians. "Honalu" is one of the most perfect songs I've ever heard!

From Wiki:

In 2013 she was featured vocalist on a release by LA techno artist, Buff Roshi, a cover of her song "Paris." She is collaborating, singing and writing lyrics for Buff Roshi's album for release in 2015.

Not sure I want to hear this

Not sure who Buff Roshi is, but I guess I'll give Paris a listen and see if it's bad.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 24 July 2015 17:47 (ten years ago)

It's not bad, it's just weird for something released in 2013 (1993 seems more apt).

Like, it definitely falls under the Pizzicato Five(ish) umbrella.
