(That is not a defense... as far as I am concerned, there is none. We had to endure ALL of their singles at ALL of the school discos, for one thing, which made them even more hellish than they already were.)

They were probably quite good at surfing. And they're not the Stereophonics.
That's the best I can manage.

1; They're from the South West.2; They're good at football.3; I do a fucking mean Gary Stringer impression.4; One of them was called Kenwyn House which is surely the name of some stately home somewhere.5; They do that retro-rock holler thing MUCH better than Kings Of Leon, who are just boring by comparison but get props cos they're really American.6; I do a fucking mean Gary Stringer impression.
That's it.

Mighta faired better if they'd called themselves FEER.
― Alex in NYC, Monday, 4 February 2008 14:04 (seventeen years ago)
And they're not the Stereophonics.
This is a flawless defence of anything in the world, except the Stereophonics.

― chap, Monday, 4 February 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)
As far as singalong student anthems of the late 90s go, there's a lot worse.
― Dom Passantino, Monday, 4 February 2008 14:19 (seventeen years ago)
The guy's gurny face is quite amusing.
― chap, Monday, 4 February 2008 14:23 (seventeen years ago)
whenever i hear of this band i think of "it's your letters, it's your letters" above all else. moral = if you are reef, even chris evans is going to make fun of you.
― Frogman Henry, Monday, 4 February 2008 14:38 (seventeen years ago)
they were not as bad as the more 'serious' retro bands of the late 90s.
― That one guy that hit it and quit it, Monday, 4 February 2008 14:42 (seventeen years ago)
They had a number of bands doing an 'It's Your Letters' jingle on TFI, and Reef won a phone vote as I remember. The runner-up was Faith No More, with Mike Patton screaming the line over distorted guitars. But for a quirk of fate, Patton could be known in this country to this day primarily as the 'It's Your Letters' guy.

Their unreleased masterpiece, Fart Sounds

Maybe Chief Keef and Reef could collaborate on an album called 'That's How I Spell Relief'.
― pure dressed up like a white ninja (snoball), Monday, 21 January 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)
or 'releef'

Just found out that they took their name by jumbling the letters around in the name of their favorite band, Free. A shame, that
― attempt to look intentionally nerdy, awkward or (thomp), Monday, 21 January 2013 16:11 (twelve years ago)
The fact that they loved Free was enough to get me to pull up "Place Your Hands" on YouTube.
(elapsed time = 30 seconds)
Fuck this band.
― 誤訳侮辱, Monday, 21 January 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)
ftr the lyric is "place your hands on my hope". similar to "Kiss On My Lips", one wouldn't place their hands ON one's hole, but IN it. it wrecks the perfection of the rhyme but well...that's Reef.
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 22 March 2014 20:25 (eleven years ago)
(and yes I know the song is "Kiss on My List", but that was another 'misheard'.)
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 22 March 2014 20:26 (eleven years ago)

― Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 18:09 (four years ago)
a friend of mine who was briefly enamoured of reef said to another friend around the time of their first album (1995 or so) that they were the best band since nirvana. still bringing that up today.
― 《Myst1kOblivi0n》 (jim in vancouver), Wednesday, 19 May 2021 18:32 (four years ago)
lol instantly thought PUT YOUR HANDS ON when I saw this thread title, good grief this band
― brimstead, Wednesday, 19 May 2021 18:52 (four years ago)
I had forgotten I ever listened to this band, but this was me:
Listening now, they kinda sound like Rare Earth, who I have come to like, but the vocalist is awful, 10000x worse than the dude from Rare Earth. (It amuses me that Reef have a seven-minute song called "Robot Riff" that's seven minutes long, but I'm not about to listen to it. And if Rare Earth had done it, it would have been 17 minutes.) So once again, fuck this band.
