What was the original track order on the UK Rough Trade LP? I have the new American version, and the songs (great, of course) don't seem to flow correctly.

From memory - my record's at home

Headmaster ritual
Rusholme ruffians
I want the one I can't have
What she said
That joke isn't funny anymore
Nowhere fast
Well I wonder
Barbarism begins at home
Meat is murder

on my tape copy bought in the UK perhaps a couple of years after it first came out the tracklisting is:

side 1
HEADMASTER RITUAL
RUSHOLME RUFFIANS
I WANT THE ONE I CAN'T HAVE
WHAT SHE SAID
THAT JOKE ISN'T FUNNY ANYMORE
side 2
NOWHERE FAST
WELL I WONDER
BARBARISM BEGINS AT HOME
MEAT IS MURDER

They added How Soon Is Now? to the American version and UK CD (and cassette?) reissues, I think.

Did they? Is it a good thing to have record companies tamper with someone's artistic decisions? Ostensibly more tracks are a better deal for the fans, but if The Smiths wanted that track on, it would have been put there in the first place.

"Rusholme Ruffians" may be the best song in the whole world. Just thought I'd mention.

Thanks. It's always nice to add the single at the end of the album, but I don't like it when they stick it in the middle. Call me anti-American if you will, but I like to hear what was heard when albums made their big impact.
