What name(s) have you used when you play records? Inspired by the trimphant return of DJ Edelweiss.

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

It's probably more fun if you do this for real & don't just make up funny names (I'm sure there is another thread for that somewhere.)

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Franco De Mayo

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 17:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Notice Mark didn't list his.

dleone (dleone), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Erm, Myron Kosloff. This actually not being the name on my birth certificate. I was once billed as a purveyor of 'disco hits of yesteryear'.

Myron Kosloff, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I was forced to help out a friend as Lefty 45. It hurt.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Broken Spectacles Held Together By Tape.

I think the best DJ name I've heard is one of kid606's - DJ 70 Year Old Woman.

jason m. (jason m), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:11 (twenty-two years ago)

OCD Soudsystem, Ron LeFloor, Ron LeFleur, Foam Fight, Foam Core, Foam Corps, Foam Corpse, Luskon Delph, Dietrich Führ, W Squeaks, Appoline, Com Punk Shun, Aquatarkus, The Operative...

Andy K (Andy K), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That's OCD Soundsystem

Andy K (Andy K), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The Quantastic Pop-A-Ganza!

Utter lie, but hey. It sounded nice.

William Bloody Swygart (mrswygart), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Last party I DJed was as Luke Warm. Dom hates this name as you can see...how about the rest of y'all?

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

My DJ name for awhile was DJ Jellyfish Balls, a name that I was given. Then I did the music for a dance performance and it was shortened to DJ Fish Balls, again not by me. My preferred radio DJ name in college was, uh, Scott.

scott m (mcd), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i like Luke Warm a lot :)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

a friend of mine goes by the ever-so nostalgiac DJ Tanner

Felcher (Felcher), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Playing rekkids for people = Nick.
Electronic music performances = a couple gigs as Connect The Dots

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i've been meaning to use "DJ Last Night I Saved My Own Life" for a while now.

jason m. (jason m), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Thanks Steve

(see Dom?)

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

haha jason that's great

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:32 (twenty-two years ago)

2 Live Bruce

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

>I think the best DJ name I've heard is one of kid606's - DJ 70 Year Old Woman.

that's Lesser's DJ name actually, DJ 40 Year Old Woman. Miguel's quite honest in shamelessly saluting his mentor, but he always seems to walk away with the credit...

milton (Jon L), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:35 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Bad Transition

ham on rye (ham on rye), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:39 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Blue-and-yellow-make-green-seal

Spinktor the Unmerciful (mawill5), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:41 (twenty-two years ago)

If I could just take a moment to point out once again the brilliance of Andy's Ron LeFloor moniker (Ron LaFlore was a great player for the Detroit Tigers in the 70s.)

Mark (MarkR), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Never good think of a good one. I was always just me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Ballz Deep

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

'I can never think of a good one, I'm always just me'
Yeah, but you're called NED RAGGETT so does it really matter?

Myron Kosloff, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:56 (twenty-two years ago)

WWJDJ, as in What Would Jesus DJ?, although nobody ever got it and I was forced to accept the fact that I'm not nearly as clever as I thought. Brutal.

Ben Boyer (Ben Boyer), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that's great though!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It would have to be Dirty Job, wouldn't it?

JoB (JoB), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I DJ as Sad, and my roommate DJ's as Lonely. Hence, Sad & Lonely.

Brian Miller, Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Although I have played out a number of times, in various capcities, I have still not DJed for an event that had a flyer that listed individual players, so I haven't had to choose one yet. All of my favorite DJs happen to use their own name, so I might just do that, but it is a little boring when compared to the witty ideas listed above. :-) Maybe I am DJ Mirror rorriM JD?

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

or uhm, dj palindrome emordnilap jd. they would even think you were scandinavian or something, that's like instant cred.

jason m. (jason m), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, but you're called NED RAGGETT so does it really matter?

Well this is true.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Panic - honestly, im a mess when i DJ.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

filth

Mike Taylor (mjt), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 23:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't actually DJ under that name, it's my fantasy rapper name. I DJ under my own name.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i've always been dj electric sound of jim. i am so unimaginative when it comes to pseudonyms

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Dr. Thunder, baby... and Emcee Stale Bread...

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Ploppy!

Old Fart!!! (oldfart_sd), Thursday, 21 August 2003 07:41 (twenty-two years ago)

haha mike one of my best friends is a DJ and he DJs under the name "Philth". His name is Phil. Clever

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 21 August 2003 07:53 (twenty-two years ago)

A friend came up with DJ Pseudonym, which is either lame lame lame or absolute genius, I've yet to decide.

person#0 (person#0), Thursday, 21 August 2003 08:02 (twenty-two years ago)

This one (used twice). It stems from a convoluted injoke at university.

Acid trance/Megadog type things were always good for this kind of thing. DJ Badly sticks out, although not for the actual music he played.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 21 August 2003 08:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Club Sussed's DJ list (including guests)

DJ Carsmile
DJ Cockfarmer
DJ Cabbage
DJ Crow Atak
DJ Constant Spray
DJ Christ
DJ Capybara

there may have been others. I was DJ Cockfarmer. I don't have a DJ name for the Freaky Trigger nights.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"WWJDJ" is the funniest fucking thing I have heard in a long time. I hope I get to book you under that name someday. (What the hell would Jesus DJ? Epic trance? Evanesce? Stryper mixed with Crown of Thorns?)

My names:
Picadub (currently in use, though I'm tiring of it)
Sebastian Koch (pronounced "coke"... for decadent fuckoff parties)

philip sherburne (philip sherburne), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Charlie No4 (drinks beer through a straw) was my DJ name in Sydney and as you can see it's kinda stuck.

I've been DJ Hooker in the past. I might resurrect that one, I like it.

I think I've been Charlielicious once too (apologies to Nickalicious, was many moons ago!).

And to bring it all together with the spoonerisms thread, Ryan Beano.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

I was hung with DJ Vertigo because I developed vertigo once before a gig and spent the whole thing sitting on a stool getting nautious as I watched the records spin -- the other members of my conbo tagged me with it on stage if I remember right. But it stuck like glue... I even had T-shirts and slipmats later!

Hutlock (Hutlock), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

In college i went by Johnny Bravo, my co-host was Phil Packer (you know when Peter puts on the fake mustache to look older). I also went by A-Jax on my Wednesday show. Combination of Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

The last times I spinned rekkids at parties were way back in my university days, and then -- in the weird and non-wonderul atmosphere of the Soviet period, late 70s- early 80s -- I operated under my own name, funnily enough.

But were I to dj ever again, I'd DEFINITELY go for
DJ Mäidu The Voolumõõtjanäidu.

...These sort of jokes just don't translate very well, alas.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I, along with cohorts, go under the moniker Witchfinder General. You can catch us at the Font Bar in Manchester on September the 12th as part of In the City. It should be a decent night with 6 bands on 2 stages (including Performance and Palo Alto).

Lynskey (Lynskey), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's an earlier thread with a simliar agenda, with links to a "Make Your Own Black Metal Alias" thread.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Dirty Vicar

DV (dirtyvicar), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd be any of the below:

DJ Ill-Equipped
DJ Lachrymose
DJ Disinterested

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 August 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Music Nazi (although i think i'd prefer "Music Czar")

christoff (christoff), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

One of my best friends puts together fantastic Jungle mixtapes as Columbo, which I think is a real good'un - I also like that jungle tradition of non-DJ prefixed DJ-names (Grooverider etc)

DJ AJ (Andrew L), Thursday, 21 August 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Monged
Mister Cool
Butchwax And Bandstands

Alan Connor (Alan Connor), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Fat Dudley

except not at all. Maybe next year.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

DJ Not Appearing In This Film

Nick Mirov (nick), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

When I was in primary school me and my friends came up with "breakdancing names," inspired by Breakin. I think I was "The Hat," in imitation of Breakin producer "The Glove". I may have worn a painter's cap. Oh dear.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I have played as DJ Tyrone Shoelaces and my career highlight was playing 4beat garage on a tiny bahamian island last year with my friend MC Skinny White Boy. People did not know what to make of it...

Jacob (Jacob), Friday, 22 August 2003 07:39 (twenty-two years ago)

jesus would be playing grime... i'm very dull... just plain ol' dave stelfox and as part of the milesahead soundsystem in the past... my fave pseudonym is my old mate the reverend milo speedwagon but i did once have a buddy who played as dj booth, which i liked...
