aka jungle/dnb remixes of popular hits, from the old skool to the present. list the best here.

(inspired by my love of dylan's mosh-happy remix of "roll out" which i'm sure is quite bad to the naked ear.)

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:29 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah we can broaden it out to include "just" pop jungle, but let's make sure we delineate them cuz a lot of those remixes you listed i've never heard the originals!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 18:31 (twenty-two years ago)

how about the "fortified live" remix by pish posh? and let's not forget the "jungle brother" remix!!!

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

"when i raise my trigger finger all you suckers hit the deck!"

The DJ Hype Remix of "Ready or not" IMMENSE!

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

actually it's "fuckers" of course, not "suckers!"

also - not a remix but a cover

M-Beats cover of Anita Baker's "Sweet Love"

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"nemeton (Heal the Seperation)" the shamen - Remix by Foul Play

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 19:30 (twenty-two years ago)

There's a remix of "Oh No" by Mos Def, Phaoroah Monche and Nate Dogg which is rather large, not sure who by though.

"I Seen A Man Die" - Scarface (4 Hero remix)

d.w., Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I still find it amazing that 'just' pop jungle never really took off until recent Shy FX and so forth. A potentially brilliant genre cruelly neglected.

As far as major musical movements go, jungle/DnB has always seemed to have a very small number of proper crossover hits, especially when you compare it to UKG.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

David Bowie - "Little Wonder"

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

has anyone else heard the (bootleg i guess) track which combines the "ready or not" remix with "mundian to bach ke"?

understandable considering on tempo alone its considered more uncompromising and notoriously 'harder' to dance to - never inferior tho

Leviticus 'The Burial' and Marky's 'LG (It's The Way)' are probably two of the best straight up pop jungle tracks ever

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

levitcus' "the burial" in one of the best straight up pop tracks ever!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i have decided 'renegade snares' counts as pop music as well

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

The jungle mix (by Ganja Kru?) of Missy's "The Rain"
Aphrodite & Urban Takeover remix of 88.3's "Wishing On A Star"

And I'm *still* looking for a replacement MP3 for the awesome, amazing jungle mix of Mel B's "I Want You Back" ("but how can you BEEP BEEP .... with no KEYS!" - cue massive jungle breakdown!)

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Thursday, 21 August 2003 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I just want to throw my hat in with those who selected the "Ready or Not" remix by DJ Hype. A monumental track.

I also heard a d 'n b remix of "Music Sounds Better With You" by Stardust. The bassline was killer.

J-rock (Julien Sandiford), Thursday, 21 August 2003 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Do all those Greensleeves dancehall remixes by the New Blood Crew, Ridley Don, DJ Monk, etc, count as pop-jungle? A whole bunch of them are fantastic (the mix of Jungle Dark Lick mix of "Guntalk" by some guys called Brotherhood is a particular fav as are the Beenie Man & Josie New Blood mixes--"Senor, make me three coffins/BOOOOOM/My mistake make it four").

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 21 August 2003 03:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i kinda realized tonight that the only way jungle could really "go pop" was when they chopped the beat down to the 2-step; it's just a shame producers have used the 2-step in the last 6 years to make explicitly un-pop records. (except for these remixes. hell, i'd take techstep if it's got brandy overtop.)

what's really amazing about the dylan remix of "roll out" is that the 2-step is overlaid with these really arrythmic snare rushes; it just sounds fitful, totally unfunky, and it seems to be on a lot of tracks of this type.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 21 August 2003 04:26 (twenty-two years ago)

all the olive singles from the first album had jungle rmx's way better than the originals.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 21 August 2003 07:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Teebee's done some pretty good mixes of both Missy Elliot and Brandy (You don't know me- vocal mix is fantastic)
anything TOO poopy (read: blackstreet and beastie boys)adds a hilarious property to the dark funikness that is jungle...so if it makes up for a time - more power to it.

ms. spatula, Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:31 (twenty-two years ago)

the dnb remix of "get busy" is GRATE!!!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:49 (twenty-two years ago)

admittedly this is because it comes with the ragga mc and the rave stabs already attached, but they keep in most of the diwali riddim and add this huge fuck-off WHUBWHUBWHUBWHUB bassline on the verses and the chorus has an insane breakdown with viscious stabs...love it!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Not a remix as such.

My favourite Jungle track of all time is the EZ Rollers remix of Foul Play's "Being with you" which appropriated a gorgeous female vocal.

"baby cant you see that i want to be with you"

was the vocal Mary J Blige? it was beautiful anyway - does anyone know what the vox are?

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

>hey keep in most of the diwali riddim and add this huge fuck-off WHUBWHUBWHUBWHUB bassline on the verses and the chorus has an insane breakdown with viscious stabs...love it!

That sounds f**king brilliant. Jump-up b-lines = total classic.

Nathan W (Nathan Webb), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

it was indeed mary j.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 21 August 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)
