horrified by john zorn's compulsive need to put out everything he ever recorded ( I guess there's some cd containing his screams from the cradle times) I had almost completely lost any interest in tzadik . but, surprise!, yesterday I got twogood cd's ( otomo yoshihide jq's flutter & blue marble from aiko shimada ) from the old avantgarde master's label . what are ,according to you, tzadik recent catalogue's best buys?

Was the T Rex/Marc Bolan tribute released on Tzadik? I really diggy dug that double CD. I can't remember if Cibo Matto was on that CD or on the Serge Gainsbourg tribute. Or Burt Bacharach tribute? Gosh, I can't remember. Anyhow life's a gas and bang a gong. That one glittered in my stereo for a while.

Forgot to mention that I loathe Cibo Matto. My obsession with Buffy The Vamp Slayer immediately cooled down after seeing that trio play in said blood-suck-soap-opera.

music = entirely rubbish on buffy (apart from the themetune) because sunnydale is on a hellmouth; bookings at the bronze done by demons; see it all fits

reheat yr love fer buffy: it will come right in the end

Is this thread like 'six degrees of Kevin Bacon' - how to get from John Zorn to Buffy in the least number of moves?

all other music on buffy cool too. wouldn't like it normally but in that context just seems cool.

Patterns Of Plants by Mamoru Fujieda. Kotos and lutes. And the plants actually wrote it! Sublime.

five months pass...
Recently picked up Peter Garland "The Days Run Away" and Danny Zamir "Satlah" from Tzadik catalog. Both good in their own ways. The Garland is pretty, hypnotic minimal piano pieces (played by Aki Takahashi). Satlah is an energetic klezmer-jazz trio.

Rumor is that Zorn is going to release a series of live Naked City albums on Tzadik. Sounds like a plan.

the description on the side of cd will probably talk about how "mind blowing" the music is and how "anyone with a broad sense of music" will enjoy. and then you take it home and never listen to it.
