How did YOU get hooked onto this page?

For me, it was Adam Harrison-Friday... he always raved about it. I admittedly am clueless on much of the music discussion here, but the occasional good post got me interested and asking my own shit and replying. Now I find myself on a few times a day checking, as I've taken an interest in a lot of the bands discussed on the board and am constantly getting new music to DL from it.

Bryan Moore (Bryan Moore), Thursday, 21 August 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I wanted to know about 'Cherry Bomb' by The Runaways, and gawd bless you, some of you pointed me in the right direction. As a resource for answering music questions ILM is quite valuable.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Thursday, 21 August 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I googled accidentally into Freaky Trigger, which linked to ILX. When I got here, I was flabbergasted by the quantity of bullshit about music that was present. I instantly fell in love with it and just can't help coming back. It's starting to really affect my performance at work.

JP Almeida (JP Almeida), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I made the awful mistake of creating ILM. It now keeps its creator locked in a tiny cage for visitors to mock and pity.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 21 August 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Hooked? Who says I'm hooked? I ain't hooked - I can give it up any time I want to, just like < clicks fingers > that!

I just don't happen to want to right now, that's all.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I went to blissblog through a link to something in it a while back. I followed all the links from there, and came here. I was instantly attracted by the general tone, which seems to mask deep pretension and sarcasm with a thin veneer of open-mindedness. Just like myself.

southern lights (southern lights), Thursday, 21 August 2003 11:54 (twenty-two years ago)

random googling duh

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

pavement board -> Matador board -> "fake" Matador Board -> ILM!!

(I swear I'm not an indie-geek)

Will (will), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:35 (twenty-two years ago)

It was the kittens.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:37 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a repressed memory now.

Larcole (Nicole), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Type for that hypnotism therapy. Now repeat after me: "R*n T****o."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 August 2003 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Gosh, it's all coming back to me now! I couldn't remember for the longest time how I got here, and now I think I was Googling for "Pazz and Jop" -- which is why I first showed up in February.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

(I do think it's funny that we mock "the Googlers," when many of us first found this board through Google.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 August 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Some whistlehead made some flippant, disrespectul comments about Killing Joke, so m'self and the entirety of The Gathering moved in to protect the Joke's good name. I've been here ever since.....THERE IS NO EXTI!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 August 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Or even an EXIT for that matter.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 August 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Met M. Perpetua via the Fake Matador Board. Started checking his blog. There was a link here. Started coming here everyday. Haven't looked back.

Raymond Cummings (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame Ned.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame Canada.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Via Tom's top 100 singles of the 90s piece to Freaky Trigger, and thus to ILM. I got hooked because it is one of the few places I've found where people "sensibly" discuss pop music of all shapes.

Nick H, Thursday, 21 August 2003 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(I actually think I've repeated this for a coupla times before, but)

..."M.Sinker" > Google > ilXor...
..."F.Kogan" > Google > ilXor...

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 21 August 2003 15:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Sometime in April of this year, I was Googling around for up-to-date information on Sumner Crane--ILM was where I found out he had died.

Stephen Boyle (SBoyle), Thursday, 21 August 2003 16:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Came here from the Silver Jews board. Famous Athlete brought it up over there.

Pleasant Plains (Pleasant Plains), Thursday, 21 August 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

tom, i'm going to do more than mock you. it's stick poking time.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 21 August 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm just waiting around for those goddamn momfucking Missy E lyrics.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 21 August 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

(cuz I just posted to another thread that I really like swearing)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Thursday, 21 August 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I made the awful mistake of creating ILM. It now keeps its creator locked in a tiny cage for visitors to mock and pity.
(*gives Tom a fresh banana and a handful of cookies*)
(*pets down a ruffled bit of fur*)
(*goes over to the sink and washes his hands*)

"Hey! Aren't the moderators supposed to clean this friggin' cage every so often!?"

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I started dabbling with ILM, but just on weekends - a little bit here and there., y'know, to take the edge off. Then I found myself on ILM during the week, sneaking it at work. Soon I was exhausted, wasting entire nights on ILM binges.
It's been hell.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

So let that be a lesson to you kids: ILM is like Smack and Devil Worship...only worse.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like worshipping the Devil on smack while hunched over a computer ... but in a bad way.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

google search for sigur ros.

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh...to answer the question: I followed Tanya Headon's page here. And ti turned out to be a trap.

Lord Custos Epsilon (Lord Custos Epsilon), Thursday, 21 August 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

100 greatest singles, then onto ILM and posting forgettably, then lurking for a year then posting again and finding it completely impossible to log off and do something sensible.

Myron Kolsoff, Thursday, 21 August 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

momus + sr + matos + bootlegs = here

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Thursday, 21 August 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Carey showed me that "Keep Chuck Eddy Away From The Jailbait Thread" and I realized there was no turning back.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Thursday, 21 August 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

sigh

nnnh oh oh nnnh nnnh oh (James Blount), Thursday, 21 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I somehow found josh blog back when he was, you know, posting here, and followed the link (only to say some silly shit about Mos Def that I don't have the courage to re-read).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

the fake matador bulletin board and it's sisters led me here through a portal... we just couldn't stay away... you actually talk about music here. and there's not so much impersonation either. or baggage. or whatever. i think we developed a sort of gilligan's island disease over there....

i digress.

msp, Thursday, 21 August 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

rockcritics.com is the culprit here for me.

Anyone get here from my assm .sigs?

Christine 'Green Leafy Dragon' Indigo (cindigo), Thursday, 21 August 2003 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

CTCL -> Freaky Trigger -> diversion to Tanya Headon -> back to Freaky Trigger -> ILM.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 21 August 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

CTCL -> Freaky Trigger

Heh heh, I know I've mentioned FT in CTCL once or twice, others have too I'm sure...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 August 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Google search for Luomo. Loving Luomo seemed almost a pre-requisite a few months ago... and so it should be!

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Thursday, 21 August 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a man. He has come and gone, but ILM still has my heart. And a lot of my frickin' free time.

Elle (elle), Friday, 22 August 2003 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

"pop music" "definition" Google search. Hooked? I don't know. I posted some things and people responded at least some of the time, and sometimes there were interesting things to read on the board. So I have stayed, so far.

Al Andalous, Friday, 22 August 2003 02:52 (twenty-two years ago)

what else did that google search turn up?

cinniblount (James Blount), Friday, 22 August 2003 02:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't remember any longer. I am only here because I am awake and don't want to go to but just yet.

Al Andalous, Friday, 22 August 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

but=bed

Al Andalous, Friday, 22 August 2003 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Thru Freaky Trigger, on the first day, when go--I mean, Tom, created ILM, & this was the very first thread.

Mark (MarkR), Friday, 22 August 2003 03:16 (twenty-two years ago)

momus linked to it, i went right around the time ile got created (i think). i go to ile more because i don't know much about music, but i use ilm to look for new stuff to listen to.

Maria (Maria), Friday, 22 August 2003 03:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I sometimes wonder if I'd started a different thread on that first day would the horror have been averted?
