Muse - Absolution

Found a thread containing lotsa Muse-hate and it seemed like only pseudoposters were defending them. A very un-ILM band instead of a nu-ILM band, I guess. Nevertheless, has anyone heard the new album and if so: what's your impression?

(and please no "fuckMuse/i don't even wanna hear it" answers, unless they're very funny...)

Yes, it's over the top again, but very addictive in doing so & more accurate then before. I like it a lot.

I quite liked The Origin of Symmetry, for wha'ever that's worth. I'd sooner listen to Muse than the fuckin' Mars Volta.

I really, really do like Muse most of the time, but some of their singles are rubbish, like Muscle Museum, Hyper Music and Dead Star.

Stockholm Syndrome is also a bit crap. I don't have high hopes for the new one, I sense momentum may be gone. Is it being shared now? If so, what tracks should be downloaded to restore my faith?

Thou art high. "Hyper Music" is what first got me into them.

...and Muscle Museum was my bait!

erm, well, if you're not digging "Hyper Music" or "Stockholm Syndrome" then I'm not sure whether my suggestions are of any use, but wtf: seek out "Stockholm Syndrome" (just listen again :), "Butterflies and Hurricanes", "TSP" & "Sing for Absolution" to get a taste of the album.

I took a quick listen over it last night, and it sounded good, though I prefer Origin of Symmetry. But it may grow on me.

Argh. No! That song is what people who'd never ever heard Muse and have only read nasty posts on here would imagine they sound like. All bluster, no interest. Not altogether bad, really, just a rubbish single off an otherwise wonderfully oddball album. Pairing it with "Feeling Good" just emphasises its weaknesses, too.

Muscle Museum - really hate the video and that chiming riff is a bit infuriating. On the album I can pretty much take it or leave it, really. Again, rubbish only compared to the tracks that surround it on Showbiz.

Stockholm Syndrome shows no sign of growing on me - annoying because it's such a good title.

I used to love Muse back when I was in school, and that lasted until late 2001... since then, I haven't really listened to them that much, Showbiz and Origin Of Symmetry are buried beneath piles of old Cds and I assumed I'd grown out of them. (After all, they are a very teenage angst band.) I've only heard the new single, 'Time Is Running Out'... I like it, it sort of sounds like 'Mobscene' were 'Mobscene' any good, but it doesn't grab me the way I remember 'Cave' and 'Muscle Museum' and 'Hyper Music' doing.

the latest Muse record is one histrionic prog mess too far IMO

Neither Muse nor the Mars Volta could be as much of a prog mess as Dream Theater, I'm thinking. But I'd rather listen to Porcupine Tree.

Semi-revive because I'm listening to it now and it sounds really good. More than anything, I'd like to hear a big dance remix of "Time Is Running Out" using that opening bass and some really big synths.
