Which momentous moments in popular music were you a party to, either as a spectator, player or participant?

Give yourself points to see how well you do...

e.g

10 points, being at a recording session of a canonical work e.g Sergeant Pepper/VU and Nico.
.
8 points being at a gig "no-one" else was at e.g Prince at Lyceum '81, Pistols at Manchester free trade hall
.
6 points being at an iconic festival gig e.g Woodstock, Pulp at Glasto
.
.
3 points picking up a rare, collectable piece of work before everyone else
.
1 point seeing Gay Dad at Middlesbrough Arena.

10 points, being at a recording session of a canonical work e.g Sergeant Pepper/VU and Nico.

stuff near the 10 point range runs the risk of either a) sounding like bullshit. b) bragging. c) revealing very personal information.

3 points picking up a rare, collectable piece of work before everyone else

one person's rare, collectable piece of work is another's piece of crap local band coaster-ware.

1 point seeing Gay Dad at Middlesbrough Arena.

i've seen a lot of rock... but 10 mediocre shows doesn't equal being at some legendary recording session...

does it?

me and my little brother sang "jesus loves me" for a women's auxilary in smalltown, ohio in 1979, it's been downhill ever since.

If you add up the number of people who claim to have been at the Pistols gig in Manchester, you could probably fill Wembley Arena.

The Beatles/VU recording session was a bust, anyway -- extension cords couldn't reach across the Atlantic and George Martin ended up getting in a tickle-fight with Andy Warhol.

What does Woodstock have to do with Pulp at Glastonbury? Am I missing something?

Holy fuck. I didn't expect it to be so complicated. The points thing was just a throwaway thought, you know to make it a bit more playful.

You're right being at 10 mediocre shows doesn't equal one legendary recording session, let's say it's a logarithmic scale. Happy now? Anyway people brag, bullshit and reveal personal information on ILM all the time. Me, I cut Elvis Presley's umbilical cord.

I just thought it'd be cool to find out if someone actually was at the legendary Pistols gig, or Kool Herc's block parties in '73, or one of Keef and Mick's drug busts.

What does Woodstock have to do with Pulp at Glasto? Other than being festival events which rise a little above the run of the mill nothing, but being able to say you were at those events has a little more critical cache than say OCS at the V festival.

gigs, recordings, "working with", are not worth mentioning; those are just everyday occurrences in the music world. i mean who cares?

the *best* moments i was party to i can't talk about ;-)
