'New Generation' by J Majik (and other 'modern' jungle tracks)

The DJ name thread inspired me to listen to the most recent mixtape made by my friend Columbo - on first hearing, the track 'New Generation' by J Majik stands out as a real new kind of banger - jungle-like BPM/sped-up vocal sample/fast synth motif repeated in v. quick cycles, underpinned by non-standard programmed beats that aren't obv sampled. Oooh, now this track melts into 'Strategy' by Q Project, slightly more old skool - reggae spliced vocals, upfront breakbeats and thumping bass, even faster BPM, hardcore nutter dark para vibe, excellent

Dunno if I'm in an overly nostalgic mood but this stuff is really hitting the spot w/ me at the moment - so can we talk abt these tracks and other recent jungle/d+b stuff, what's happening, is the music still moving forward in any significant way (should it still be?), is there any point in listening to new jungle in 2003

Fuck that fucker Callum has just posted a thread above this one - don't be distracted by the trollcore, pl!

I also meant to say, my pal has a pretty large vinyl collection of jungle dating back to 1989 - I keep meaning to go round and tape some of his stuff - I particularly like jungle circa 1992-4, w/ superfast helium vocal samples, hoover bass, mega-fast BPMS - hardkore you know the score - any suggestions for stuff I shld esp. look out for?

I bought the adam f & dj fresh compilation, breakbeat kaos (released on his new label, breakbeat kaos) and it's standard! apart from the cringesome horn noises that create an authentic rave vibe guv, and gq's half-hearted stevie hyper d impressions it's reallly really worth getting.

My favourite jungle track of the decade so far is J Majick vs Hatiras - Spaced Invader (Remix) - on the filter-house tip, really intense and full-on, just keeps building and building until it's almost too much to take (sort of like harder Daft Punk in that sense). There's nothing exciting beats-wise but it's so obviously not the point of this track that I don't care.

i like the Bad Co remix of 'Barcelona', techy breezy heavy all in one - digital's smooved out a bit too with good results (it's better to hear his trax when he plays out, they sound so good together, kinda like all your favourite licks in one gob of sound, the Greatest Sounds of Jungle). i still wade thru all the latest d&b in shops and it's a rate of about 1 hit to 20 misses.

what's the Nitelife mix like?
