When, on 'Fun', Thought Criminals vocalist sings, "I wanna come home in an OPD" - what's that?

outpatient department?

i'm guessing it's not 'overfill protection device'

I think I like the second idea Jim.

officially pronounced dead? this is a canadian acronym. i've never heard of it personally.

judging by those lyrics, it sounds like he might be singing about going home in the back of a divvy van.

I reckon you're on the money with 'Officially Pronounced Dead' Michael, unless anyone else knows better.

no idea, sorry. never took much notice of their lyrics to be honest.

Phil = the aussie Ned

I won't pay for punk records
I won't pay for punk records

It's easy to see
It's so plain to me
Mr McLaren is a mercenary

that's why
I won't pay for punk records
I won't pay for punk records

...now how could you not notice a lyric like that?

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Friday, 22 August 2003 05:05 (twenty-two years ago)

well, i was being a bit disingenuous - we used to sing along to them all the time - that was part of the fun. but i have to admit that the OPD lyric has always passed me by until mr e. jim pointed it out.

phil turnbull (philT), Friday, 22 August 2003 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

There is nothing for it. We must contact Mr Grierson. It's probably an Overfill Protection Device, whatever that is.

colin s barrow (colin s barrow), Friday, 22 August 2003 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

direct from roger grierson - it IS "officially pronounced dead". apparently iggy used it in a song before they did. although i'd think that "i wanna come home AS an opd" would be more appropriate.

Yay! Thanks Phil. And thank you TOO, Mr Grierson, sir.

I can never quite get my head around how useful this board is for highly specific music questions. It's like having a personal hotline to Fred Fact.

roger also pointed me to www.doublethink.tv which is a joint venture between dave robinson (ex stiff records) and the festival mushroom conglomerate. at least the old label name and logo survive.

and in regards to an official re-release he says... "re TTC no plans for comp tho its close (ish)" which seems a little contradictory but there ya go.
