The background kind of reminds me of Roxy Music.

I think most of the 60s gurus had a go (of course Laing's record was a bit later):

Gentle Giant's song "Knots" was inspired by Laing.

Track 8 sounds a bit Michael Nyman-ish or Divine Comedy.

So crazy. It's like The Books' The Way Out but not so ADHD.

I can't stop listening to this album (after expressing earlier doubts): Track 4 is great, and track 12 is a good closer.

Odd that the music was written and produced by Howard and Blaikley, the guys behind the Herd and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich!

There's some history I think. When not writing songs for the Bay City Rollers in the 70s, Alan Blaikley was and still is a psychiatrist so perhaps they made a connection with Laing that way.
One of the remarkable things about these songs is the dogmatic swagger that Laing puts behind the delivery of his lyrics. The words are quite outrageous at times but he performs them with an intensity that is quite intimidating. It's not common to see that kind of confidence in an older performer.

'Life Before Death' is excellent, can get vinyl copies pretty cheap second hand - I think ours was under £3.
In the same kind of ballpark, would love a copy of this:
