This seems a lot more tolerable than NYC Ghosts and Flowers. Pleasant even.

What do you all think?

Also, SYR5 is touring Japan.

Never heard it outside of a record store once... actually, it sounded pleasant enough, but the whole thing was a little irritating (if Kim had stuck to guitar, I'd prob own it)

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 22 August 2003 23:29 (twenty-two years ago)

everyone here hates sonic youth

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 23 August 2003 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Please please please PLEASE tell me we're not talking about Goodbye 20th Century.

Mister Snrub (MisterSnrub), Saturday, 23 August 2003 03:24 (twenty-two years ago)

No that's SYR4 you nit.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Saturday, 23 August 2003 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

like there's enough of a difference to give a shit

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Saturday, 23 August 2003 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

man the SY on ILM REALLY get me down, I shld steer clear of 'em

but just for 'the record', SYR4 is one of the all-time great rock albs, and the live gig they did at the RFH, where they performed some of the same material to a slightly hostile crowd, was SY at their most inspirational, even after all these years

Andrew L (Andrew L), Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Goodbye 20th Century is, without question, the worst album I have ever heard in my life that wasn't named American Life.

Mister Snrub (MisterSnrub), Saturday, 23 August 2003 21:50 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh, diss

thom west (thom w), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

DOWN WITH THE MAN

thom west (thom w), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

sonic youth were so good in la last sunday. when o'rourke plays bass they're a different, better, rock band, and when o'rourke plays guitar, lee and thurston are both freed up to play less but do more. they're the best live rock band in the world right now. the ilm massive isn't really about the live rock, which is fine.

dan (dan), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish i liked them more sometimes.

thom west (thom w), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

would anyone care to, like, talk about WHY they liked or didn't like SYR5? also, did this record have a title of some kind?

thom west (thom w), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:27 (twenty-two years ago)

also if anyone has a picture of kim gordon's pubes post it, it might just start some kind of discussion

thom west (thom w), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

if not a worthwhile one

thom west (thom w), Saturday, 23 August 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

when David becomes the new Goliath (Drugs A. Money), Tuesday, 20 January 2009 02:21 (seventeen years ago)

SYR5 is when I realized there was no reason to buy Kim Gordon solo albums.

Hideous Lump, Tuesday, 20 January 2009 04:32 (seventeen years ago)

alright yeah...allmusic called this a "true headphone head trip." it should have said instead "hey you know that first song off of A Thousand Leaves, what's it called, Contre le Sexisme? Do you listen to that song or do you just skip over it? Bcz this whole album sounds like this song"...

dud

never dropped acid, picked it up a couple times tho... (Drugs A. Money), Wednesday, 21 January 2009 05:41 (seventeen years ago)

thing is, I've never had a problem with Kim's weird vocals on SY records and even liked a fair amount of Free Kitten stuff, and was kinda looking forward to SYR5 when I first heard about it. the short clips I heard when it was released really put me off ever wanting to buy it, though.
