hellbaby (hellbaby), Saturday, 23 August 2003 07:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah bunch of times, oh come on you already know what i think of them

duane (24 hour troubleshooter), Saturday, 23 August 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

paging george gosset

duane (24 hour troubleshooter), Saturday, 23 August 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

hey fuck them check who's playing in dunedin tonite! : FATS WHITE. brent hayward! you know - smelly feet! shoes this high! this is the real nz underground. it might suck, could EASILY suck but even if it does it's worth a zillion skidillion dead c's & gates & who the hell ever

duane (24 hour troubleshooter), Saturday, 23 August 2003 08:03 (twenty-two years ago)

brent hayward! of the kiwi animal! (and shows this high and...) dude, i would totally swim there.

your null fame (yournullfame), Saturday, 23 August 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

uh. shoEs this high. that's a great record.

your null fame (yournullfame), Saturday, 23 August 2003 09:08 (twenty-two years ago)

that's one of the bands I'd want to see.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 23 August 2003 09:50 (twenty-two years ago)

i hate shoes this high for being called shoes this high. that band name should rightfully belong to me. i AM shoes this high! i WEAR shoes this high. ohh i forgive them for ruling though. all two songs of theirs i've ever heard.

i always forget where i see dead c cos i've never seen them do a good live show. their performance on that show i forget what it was called (the one that was on before space started) was really great, though they came across as arrogant tossers.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 23 August 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I do think they have the right to come across as 'arrogant tossers' tho' and even though I think I'll never see them live (unless i travel to NZ and they happen to eb playing while i'm there) I do kind of respect the 'we are not a rock band, touring is not what we do' line.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 23 August 2003 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Saw them in LA, and Bruce wasn't arrogant at all! He was wandering the crowd taping us for a radio show thing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

they're as crap live as on record. i've seen them twice. the nunfest show in 96 was an event, lots of crazy people climbing up walls and stuff but the "music" was still atrocious. guy from gate ont he kiwiwpop list said they all hated each other back then.

keith (keithmcl), Saturday, 23 August 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

you really should stick to yr belle and sebastien records keith.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 23 August 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

hey the fats white show was choice fun & hangin out with brent afterwards rappin w. him about back in the day, kevin hawkins & shoes this high gettin together - GREAT time, that guy is cool as hell. lisa theyre playin in lyttelton, you gotta go man!

duane, Sunday, 24 August 2003 08:15 (twenty-two years ago)

look i'm sure there are occasional neat noises on some dead c records but it so sucks that those nothin-to-say art scene dilettantes are considered so heavy when they just knock off a fake version of the serious nz occult rock scene that only i am cool enough to know about

duane, Sunday, 24 August 2003 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

RIP kevin everyone that remembers you loves you brother

duane, Sunday, 24 August 2003 08:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Julio was that entirely necessary?

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Sunday, 24 August 2003 08:25 (twenty-two years ago)

yes it was.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 24 August 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

The Black Cat
Washington, D.C.
1994 or 1995
w/ Harry Pussy, Run On and some poor band that had no business being on that bill.
The. Dead C. Were. Fucking. Great.
Period.

Joe Gross, Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:20 (twenty-two years ago)

jack cole to thread. (argh, but you're out of town and won't see this for a week.)
m.

ps joe gross, that line up sounds nice.

msp, Sunday, 24 August 2003 20:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey if I could actually find The Shoes This High record and Brent Hawards output I would partake. You could never walk into the most with it stores here in the US and pick up anything on OnSet/OffSet or Industrial Tapes. Though there's plenty of cheap Space Dust and Brother Love LPs in the bins Duane.

brg30 (brg30), Sunday, 24 August 2003 23:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't seen the Dead C, but I saw Gate open for Faust on their '94 tour. The one thing I distinctly remember was they were !^#!$!$ loud and I went into the stairwell that led to the balcony of the club and the noise was reverberating off the walls and it sounded pretty cool. I think there was some hearing damage done that night.

o. nate (onate), Sunday, 24 August 2003 23:37 (twenty-two years ago)

email from Michael Morley some of you may be interested in:

The Dead C have been asked to play at an Electronic Sound Festival
being held in Glasgow at the Centre of Contemporary Art during 26-29
November. We are awaiting notification of funding. We had not planned
any other performances but now see that we have an opportunity to
play a few more shows after Glasgow and before our return to NZ.
We have had offers of shows in Paris and Hasselt, and we may try and
do a show in Edinburgh. We are also aware of the Termite Club? in
Leeds, which may be our first show in England. We are still only in
planning stages at present. We are not sure if we will play in
London. That is about all I can say at present. Our fingers are
crossed that funding will be forthcoming.

paranoid (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:02 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my god, i read the thread as "has anyone seen the dead" as in the grateful and almost vomited!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Though there's plenty of cheap Space Dust and Brother Love LPs in the bins Duane.

haha where?!

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I briefly met some guy called Keith at the Dunedin nunfest. He told me he thought the Dead C were a side project not a fulltime band which confused me cause i didn't know there were any fulltime bands in Dunedin. Crude, Snapper and the Verlaines played on the same night and they were all on top form believe it or not. Chris Knox stood next to me and kept yelling obnoxious stuff in my ear and he kept following me around so i couldn't get away from him. He was much louder than the dead c. Anyways yeah i've seen the c a bunch of times; the first rock show i ever went to was them with sonic youth and peter jefferies. it was pretty good. the c did a straight ahead rock show (possibly their only one ever) and all these punx were moshing. sonic youth did a 15 minute version of xpressway (a retitled expressway to yr skull) which tested the patience of most of the indie kids. also saw them at the dux (the Repent recording), the Dunedin sound (see last track on new electric music) and that hall out in port chalmers. The last two were pretty bad and underutilised their rockingest drummer. oh actually the best show i've seen them do was when Bruce was replaced with a computer for their keiji haino support slot at bath street.

hamish (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Gregor kessler from hayfever reished some of those kiwi animal records. they're pretty good despite whatever i think of brent hayward (anyone see Queer Nation the night he took it over?)

hamish (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

check out Don't Make Noise for proto-free noise by people that could actually play.

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:22 (twenty-two years ago)

You could never walk into the most with it stores here in the US and pick up anything on OnSet/OffSet or Industrial Tapes

you're not likely to ever see any Industrial tapes in NZ shops either. i don't even believe they exist.

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I saw a Shoes this High 7" in the CHEAP 7" BIN. Didn't buy it, if it's still there does anyone want it? No I'm not shocked you drank yr own piss Brent, I might be if you drank mine I guess

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 25 August 2003 00:53 (twenty-two years ago)

"haha i had sex with guys when it was ILLEGAL! i'm so on the edge. man our society is becoming so conformist we need people like me to write bad poetry and fuck things up"

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 01:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i want it, andrew, ye splease!!!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 25 August 2003 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

its kind of funny that brent hayward was brought up on this thread. i think its possible that he would equal michael morley for the title of worst film maker ever.

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

hamish i was at that sy/dc show, did i know you then? it was sort of ok. yeah don't make noise were not bad, the guy that made it good was the guy who "couldn't play" tho probably....you know the guy with the beard from the library. also quit rankin on brent, he's my mate!
hey anyone if you live in whatever town has the dust & brother stuff in the bargain bins (seattle? christchurch?) you seriously oughta buy that shit now & not wait til all the other hip guys are buying em off ebay for 100s of bucks, for reals, i seen it hap with pretty much everything else i ever played on. no i haven't got any SYTA records under my bed.
the Industrial tapes exist, i've got or used to have a few of them. they were some patchy stuff

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

...(sorry forgot to finish that post) but some cool stuff, & actually the one i remember being about the best one had the kiwi animal on. there was a skeptics one from way before they were at all interesting, which is sort of....well it sort of IS interesting. i might still have that, if so does anyone wanna buy it?

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i had sex with guys when it was ILLEGAL!

fuck you hataz, just jealous. me i'm not going to have sex with anyone ever unless they make it ALL illegal. else what's the fun, i don't get it

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

no you didn't know me at the sy/dc show, i was about 14 then. my taste in music hasn't improved since. apparently i met matt middleton there but i don't really remember him. E Kane would probably buy that skeptics tape off you if she had any money.

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

hamish you would be such a insufferable prick if you weren't always putting yr self down, yr too obviously concious of that yr self tho so actually you must BE a insufferable prick...what a life! don't worry i love you, i love everyone right now

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

quick take advantage of that cause it won't last

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 05:27 (twenty-two years ago)

plus for liz that tape is free (if i can find it), i'd only want money if it was some fatso american record collecter dork

duane, Monday, 25 August 2003 05:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i haven't put myself down for months so yeah thats how i turned into an insufferable prick. liking same music when yr 14 and 26 is fine with me. i don't hate brent or wish him any illwill at all(i don't even know him). i was glad they let him do that self-interview on queer nation; it provided one of the most surreal moments eva on tele but i don't think it was surreal in the way he meant it to be. shit i'm trying to earthquake proof my room right now and i found this box of tapes of walkman recorded dead c/gate/fliesinside the sun shows. it would a pretty embarrassing way to die or get brain damaged if they feel on my head so i better get rid of them along with the box of krkrkrk tapes.

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

e is ecstatic. do you have her postal address?

hsimah (hamish), Monday, 25 August 2003 05:53 (twenty-two years ago)

oh man I hope the Dead C make it to London

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 25 August 2003 08:19 (twenty-two years ago)

yr getting rid of yr Krrrkkkk tapes!!!!

hellbaby (hellbaby), Monday, 25 August 2003 08:51 (twenty-two years ago)

''oh man I hope the Dead C make it to London''

And to a nice, accessible venue too (ie. not 291 gallery).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 25 August 2003 09:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Di I'll see if it's still there, I kinda doubt it. Y'know I'm probably not the type of person he's trying to shock, it's just I don't know who else is watching at 12.30am

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 25 August 2003 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

hamish(/liz) does she(/do you) still live in coromandel st, if so yeah i got that address. but i may not still have the tape, i'll go thru my boxes & cupboards & stuff later but right now i need to get some rest. back at'cha ok

duane, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah she's still in coro st.

hsimah (hamish), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

7 the reason brent h came up on this thread in the 1st place is CAUSE I MENTIONED HIM, christ learn to read

duane, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:29 (twenty-two years ago)

"7" = ampersand but i didnt press the shift key hard enough. ok cool i hope i've still got it

duane, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 02:30 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah fuck you duane for hijacking my thread and turning it into a brent hayward thread

hellbaby (hellbaby), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

although brent heyward is actually more interesting

hellbaby (hellbaby), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 04:49 (twenty-two years ago)
