piscesboy, Saturday, 23 August 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

it is, like, AWESOME

Nate Patrin pays fuck-all (Nate Patrin), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:23 (twenty-two years ago)

it is, like, AWESOMELY awful. the slits without viv albertine ain't no slits.

stirmonster, Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope its a vicious rumour.

boak.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Saturday, 23 August 2003 20:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Urgh. Will that Frischmann woman never just RETIRE?

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 23 August 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Not until she ends up in Wire and ruins them once and for all.

Andrew Frye (paul cox), Saturday, 23 August 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

i think she would be grebt in wire

geeta, Sunday, 24 August 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, she'd know all the riffs already. < / bad Britpop comedian in 1995 >

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 24 August 2003 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

haha - well obviously.

she would be grebt in the slits too (they should replace ari up also)

geeta, Sunday, 24 August 2003 00:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, so what's Justine been doing for the past three years? And am I the only one who genuinely likes The Menace?

samuel, Monday, 25 August 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

... yet also horrified by it at the same time?

samuel, Monday, 25 August 2003 16:03 (twenty-two years ago)

this is the strangest news i've heard in a while.

amateurist (amateurist), Monday, 25 August 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

she's on a new single ("don't look the other way") with something/one called Pleasure.

scott pl. (scott pl.), Monday, 25 August 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Tis apparent that daddy cut off Justine's allowance again, since she's actually decided to try working.

she's on a new single ("don't look the other way") with something/one called Pleasure.

And how is it?

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Monday, 25 August 2003 19:46 (twenty-two years ago)

That Radio 1 sessions CD confirmed my suspicions that Elastica kicked arse. I'd rather she started her own group again, though.

(the new pleasure tune, never heard the band before, sounds like something from "Evil Heat" with Justine taking over for Bobby)

ham on rye (ham on rye), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I love Justine and I never ever want her to go away. I just think she's really really... ace.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like something from "Evil Heat" with Justine taking over for Bobby

sounds GREAT!!

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd rather she started her own group again, though.

I like Justine too, with reservations ... but isn't this sort of the whole joke? A la, "now that she's joined a canonical name-check band, experts agree the chances of her doing original work have at the very least doubled."

brian nemtusak (sanlazaro), Monday, 25 August 2003 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Again, The Menace ... any takers?

samuel, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Somehow I just can't see Ms. Frischmann and Ms Forster being able to cope with each other for too long....

The Menace? Not bad but nothing like as good as the first one.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

*understatement of, erm, 2000*

The Slits are already reformed kinda, aren't they? They played Holidays In The Sun this year, for their sins...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if Ari resurrecting the name counts as them having "reformed" then I guess so.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, true. The fact they were billed as Ari Up's Slits would be something of a giveaway.

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Wait, so what's Justine been doing for the past three years?

Watching every Klang gig in London and getting tempted back I reckon.

I _think_ I've just soulseeked The Slits Y3 bootleg thingy but it's so dodgy I just don't know. Is there some guy singing 'No More Rock and Roll For You' and is 'Bongos on the Lawn' moctly bouncy acoustic strum with no singing but occasional parp noise?
Someone help!

mei (mei), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 09:41 (twenty-two years ago)

No More Rock and Roll....

...is the Slits/Subway Sect thrash that they used to do for encores.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 09:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds suspiciously like it Mei.

The bloke on No More Rock 'n' Roll For You is Vic Godard of Subway Sect

Highlights from memory: Or What It Is, Number One Enemy, Face Place

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 09:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Vic Godard and Subway Sect will also be in Cardiff on the 28th of next month, ludicrously finding himself in support to The Loves...

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

...is the Slits/Subway Sect thrash that they used to do for encores.

Early Schooly D fans!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I have it then, ta.

mei (mei), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

bubba jones, Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

latebloomer (latebloomer), Sunday, 7 December 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

marshmellow-eater, Monday, 16 February 2004 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

roxymuzak (roxymuzak), Monday, 16 February 2004 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

seven months pass...
I like Latebloomer's Freudian slip there

Andrew Blood Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 4 October 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

did justine really write "galang"?

scott pl. (scott pl.), Monday, 4 October 2004 11:07 (twenty-one years ago)

i have absolutely no recollection of starting this.

piscesboy, Monday, 4 October 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
They were great as part of the Camden Crawl last night. Ari in fine form.

Venga (Venga), Friday, 21 April 2006 11:02 (nineteen years ago)

Justine?

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 21 April 2006 11:19 (nineteen years ago)

No, and thank God for that.

Venga (Venga), Friday, 21 April 2006 11:26 (nineteen years ago)

Wait up, wasn't Donna Matthews the actual guitar genius in Elastica?!

I realise attaching the "genius" is OTT, but she appeared to be the only truly talented musician in there at the time...

fandango (fandango), Friday, 21 April 2006 11:45 (nineteen years ago)

the slits without viv albertine does not compute.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Friday, 21 April 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)

so true. who else was in the band then? was palmolive singing her xtian evangelistic version of FM??!?!?

zappi (joni), Friday, 21 April 2006 12:23 (nineteen years ago)

of the original band, ari and tessa. steve jone's daughter (is that what ari said?) on backing vocals, a friend of friend of mine, anna, on drums, and two girls on guitars. have to agree it was a great show. man next door sounded amazing. shoplifting was fun too.
