Having said that, surely any decent greatest hits would be enough for most people? Avoid anything that says anything like "due to limitations of the original source tape... songs have been re-recorded featuring at least one member of the original group"

Dug out the two-disc Archaeology compilation for the first time in years yesterday -- forgot how good they were. And after years of being familiar with the Spiritualized cover it's nice to remember how "Any Way That You Want Me" originally was.

From Nowhere
I haven't listened to the entirety of this one yet, but I know the singles, and remembered "Jingle Jangle" from taping it off a college radio station broadcast years n years ago

HER EMOTION!!!
I kinda wish the whole song was just a loop of the last 30 seconds or so when the tambourine kicks in

Apparently Chuck Prophet shared on FB the news that Reg Presley has been diagnosed with lung cancer and is retiring from performing, ending the Troggs after more than 45 years.
― Lady Writer, Male Seether (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 26 January 2012 23:21 (fourteen years ago)
Word has come in from a friend of a friend on FB that Reg Presley has passed on due to the combination of cancer and a series of strokes. He apparently passed peacefully at home with family and friends. No further/formal word yet.

reg earned a fortune in royalties from wet wet wet's cover of love is all around, which was a number 1 in the UK for something like three months. he spent the money on researching crop circles and related phenom.

I thought I had their Sire best-of, but I guess not. "With a Girl Like You" is my favourite, and hearing "Wild Thing" on the car radio soon after Game 6 of the '93 World Series remains a vivid memory.

'Tranquility'.
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Monday, 4 February 2013 22:38 (thirteen years ago)
xpostIt was a half-written ballad called "Tranquilty" that iirc was never actually released.

whenever I hear the Troggs version of Love is all Around I think of Bill Nighy's terrible Christmas is All Around from Love Actually.
"So if you really love Christmas, come on and let it snow'

but I mean that in a good way because I'm the dork who liked that music ...and I love the Troggs song
music? movie
xpost:
That's right. The Troggs Tapes is from a session they did in the mid '70s at DJM Studios in London... as you can hear from the tapes, they struggled to record the song ('Tranquility'), so the session was aborted. The song was never recorded properly and never came out, but the engineer kept the tape running, captured all of the arguing and whatnot, and here we are!

When discussing space travel, Presley tended to depart from the standard vernacular, referring to interstellar craft as “the bugger” or “the bastard”, and to interplanetary communications systems as “tackle”. In 1994 he claimed to have obtained footage of a metallic disc seen hovering over crops, an object which, he said, was “nosin’ around at corn height”, and “sniffin’ around the field”. This, he argued, was “one of the little fellers – the ones with the big cow eyes, which in UFO circles we call the greys. I’ve got a sneaking feeling that they are engineered by aliens who can see the future; if they know a woman is going to lose a baby they take it and they convert it. They put in a bit of extra brain. Maybe no vocal. But they can mind-read you.”

Either one of these will do:
The band attempted to capitalise on this new exposure with two collaborations on new versions of "Wild Thing". A 1992 recording with actor Oliver Reed and snooker player Alex Higgins failed to chart,[13] but another version the following year featuring Wolf from the TV show Gladiators reached number 69 in the UK Singles Chart.[3][14]
