Outkast do indiepop? Single of the year! My iTunes says I've played it 43 times and it still makes me unbelievable happy after each listen. I wish you could see the smile on my face. I think I'm going to cry. Who wants to be my friend?

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:47 (twenty-two years ago)

shake-it sha-shake-it sha-sha-shake-it like a polaroid picture!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

OMG, Radiohead was in the Q101 studio the other day as guest DJs. (I tuned in midway and didn't understand why the local alt-rock station was playing Yo La Tengo and Four Tet.) But the last song they played was "Hey Ya." I could not believe it. I can't wait to hear it again.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm getting increasingly optimistic about this wacky split-outkast record. "hey ya" is great and totally unexpected. it blew my roommate's mind when it was playing on the radio last night and i told him it was andre3000. that bloopy bass seals the deal!

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 04:20 (twenty-two years ago)

ha, phil-two, the 'shake it like a polariod' is the crucial line! that and the 'what's cooler than bein' cool? ICE COLD' into 'alrightalrightalrightalright' bit.

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 04:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Ya!'s pretty good, but The Way You Move makes me want to vomit.

I pulled the double-single from a college radio station rejected bin last week. The entire idea of there being one CD for each single is too funny for words.

Xii (Xii), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't stop listening either :)

Mil, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:04 (twenty-two years ago)

"Ghettomusick" still rules this household.

Tom (Groke), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 08:12 (twenty-two years ago)

this is admittedly very addictive ... but maybe it's almost too coy?

Jay K (Jay K), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 13:16 (twenty-two years ago)

kindalike the huey lewis of rap? or the wonder stuff of same?

Jay K (Jay K), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

"of rap" makes all the diff, tho. Fuck ILM's getting me excited about this record, maybe I should revive my filesharing shit

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

At about 1:16, does Dre say, "We get together, but separate songs is better when there's feelings involved"? Like maybe addressing the solo-double-disc thing?

wl (wl), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Big Boi addresses that on Flip Flop Rock as well, 'Ain't no uno/We a duo', etc.

David Steans, Tuesday, 26 August 2003 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I like all 5 songs I've heard so far. Even "The May You Move."

Drip Drip Drop/Here Comes The Eargasm...or something like that.

I dig how he just lets the soul chorus ride out the song, instead of trying to squeeze another verse in. Tho, I suss that other people hate that about it.

ben welsh (benwelsh), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

err. "The Way You Move," rather.

ben welsh (benwelsh), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Has anyone got the full track listing?

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I havn't seen a tracklist but, just for the record, Amazon is listing Sept. 23rd as the release date.

ben welsh (benwelsh), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

is Drip Drip Drop the one with the crazy extended dub sequence where there's a held note (maybe a chord) on a keyboard for like three minutes? i missed the lyrics, if there are any, when i caught it on the radio and was BUMPING that ish, then found out it was 'kast

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 17:14 (twenty-two years ago)

naw, I was quoting a line from "The Way You Move"

I don't know what you song you are referring to.

ben welsh (benwelsh), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

neither do I! no biggie

rob geary (rgeary), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

"Hey Ya" is SO great!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

this album is going to be GREAT.

i can't remember the last time i had the panicky urge to tape something off top 40 radio.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I've never ever ever been so excited about a single song ever ever. I want the whole world to know. Like that Cheerios commercial where the guy tells complete strangers "I lowered my cholesterol" - I wanna tap on people's shoulders and go "Outkast. Hey Ya. Best Song Evah".

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:14 (twenty-two years ago)

can someone, like, put these leaked songs on the web somewhere?

i will repay with mix tape. [/caveman voice]

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Am, "Hey Ya" at least is on the Arista website!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I bet Wayne Coyne likes this song.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

whoa

(mind blows)

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

you know what this reminds me of?

some of the "straight" soul ballads on "cosmic slop." in the vocals.

the rest sounds like vitesse or something.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

jay - looking at the top level of that site, it seems it's not meant for the public, but that their security procedures are a joke. Do you know how to get a directory of the other mp3s that are hosted there?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ill join the chorus.this is great

juiceboxxx (juiceboxxx), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

(xp)
I don't. Actually, I originally found that on some dude's website. I forget which -- I just searched for "hey ya" + mp3.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

it's on slsk

Jay K (Jay K), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 08:54 (twenty-two years ago)

ehhhh, i much prefer 'the way you move'. i like the soaring horns in the background on the chorus (not the stabs), they remind me of the glossy bits in the dance records they're so clearly referencing. 'hey ya' is a joke that gets old before you get out the chorus, and as quirky pop it's not very good. 'the way you move' is worthy dance magic.

Dave M. (rotten03), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

that three-note bassline in the verses of "the way you move" is incredible.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)

this has been fun but seriously, Flip Flop Rock f/Jay-Z and Killer Mike

Holy Shit.

Young Hov in the place to be
Big Boi in the place to be
Andre 3000 shout out to public housing
I bought the whole hood for me

ben welsh (benwelsh), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i cannot stop listening to this song!
i drive my co-workers mad by singing the chorus nonstop while doing a little bootylicious dance.
for some reason, i think this needs a chris walla rmx?

curtie slade (curtie), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 30 August 2003 04:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Phil played this when I was staying at his and Carey's place. I can't think of any other group that bitchslaps me so hard whenever I hear the first single off their album. Soooo good.

Everyone at my radio station is talking about this song constantly. Impromptu Outkast dance parties are springing up all over the place. I love it.

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 9 February 2004 19:03 (twenty-two years ago)

btw, has anyone here heard Wayne Marshall's "Hey Ya!" yet? i caught only the last two seconds on the radio yesterday, which didn't really tell me anything...

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 9 February 2004 19:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been a defender of "Hey Ya!" as a great song (and it is I still think), but at a party I DJed this weekend I played it after a request (usually I try to stay away from overplayed stuff). As it played and I watched everyone dancing, I thought to myself "well fuck it finally happened....if I never hear Hey Ya again before I die I'll not only be perfectly okay with it, I might in fact die happier"

Gear! (Gear!), Monday, 23 February 2004 18:36 (twenty-two years ago)

CarlosDP, Saturday, 15 February 2014 22:23 (twelve years ago)

Why does it say '9 years pass...' when clearly 10 years have passed between the last two comments?

3×5, Sunday, 16 February 2014 02:56 (twelve years ago)

wow 10 years -- longest break between replies?

Dominique, Sunday, 16 February 2014 03:04 (twelve years ago)

da croupier, Sunday, 16 February 2014 03:05 (twelve years ago)

Why does it say '9 years pass...' when clearly 10 years have passed between the last two comments?
