My sister sat me down one day and explained that John Denver was shit and in fact all my records were crap, and then she played "(Bend Over) Let Me See You Shake Your Tailfeathers" and "Strokin'" by Clarence Cater, and I went, "Oh".

I guess I knew the ACDC songs I was lisening to were about sex when I was 15, but hearing them again a few years later it dawned on me why my parents were annoyed by the lyrics. Now they are funny, probably what the band intended.

Though I got Root Hog Or Die for Christmas when I was 9 or 10 (after seeing the video "Elvis Is Everywhere," the Weird Al fan in me begged to get a Mojo Nixon album for Christmas), it wasn't until middle school that I really got what "She's Vibrator Dependent" was all about.

Felcher (Felcher), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 21:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm... That one by Poison with the lyric about "sex on the beach" took me about 3 minutes, alone, with a tape deck, as a ten year old.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 22:14 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah i never realised that peaches song "fuck the pain away" was about sex - her lyrics are so subtle dont you think?

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

that pop song from a few years ago "Too Close" by Next. I thought it was sort of sweet until i listened to the lyrics more closely and was like "feeling a poke come through"??? huh? wait? oh.

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Duane you besmircher. I never heard that song and if I ever did hear it when you were around I would have turned it off immediately and given you a wholesome talk about England. Meaning ENGLAND.

It dawned on me the way it should dawn on a young child hungry for knowledge, Salt n Peppa - "Let's Talk About Sex"

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 03:30 (twenty-two years ago)

"Do Me" by Bel Biv Devoe when I was ten. That's how I started the nineties.

The Man they call Dan (The Man they call Dan), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

John Anderson -"Swingin"

There's a little girl in our neighborhood,
her name is Charlotte Johnson and she's really lookin' good.
I had to go and see her, so I called her on the phone.
I walked over to her house and this was going on:

Her brother was on the sofa, eatin' chocolate pie,
her Mama was in the kitchen cuttin' chicken up to fry.
Her daddy was in the backyard rollin' up a garden hose,
I was on the porch with Charlotte, feelin' love down to my toes...
and we were Swingin',
yes we were Swingin'...

Little Charlotte she's as pretty as the angels when they sang,
I can't believe I'm out here on the front porch in the swang,
just-a-swangin

Now Charlotte she's the darlin', she's the apple of my eye,
and when I'm on the swang with her it makes me almost high
And Charlotte is my lover and she has been since the sprang,
I just can't believe it started on her front porch in this swang

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, i didn't realize it until my dad said that his friend Bill really liked it, and there was something roguish about Bill... it clicked

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot "Too Close" by Next. It was definitely several weeks after everyone I knew heard it that we all went "oh hey! It's about getting a hard-on on the dance floor! YOW!"

I've learned my lesson though, and the FIRST thing I do when I hear a new R&B song is listen to the lyrics.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I figured out that "I Wanna Fuck You In The Ass" by The Outhere Brothers was about sex pretty quickly.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

In contrast, "This is Hardcore" by Pulp is about Serbo-Croatian labor unrest in 1920. < / Neil Tennant >

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"That goes in there/And that goes in there/And that goes in there/And that goes in there/And then it's over" clearly refers to Zagreb Miner's Revolt (it's amazing how many orifices a pissed-off miner can wedge a pickaxe into).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Zagreb Miner's Revolt

...released in seedier theatres as Hot Hung Horst or Boys, Borscht and Baklava.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 14:25 (twenty-two years ago)
