yeah im sure this will be a real popular thread, maybe i shouldve put the gary numan thing in the title!! jim crow are so low on the funky dirty south food chain its like outkast > goodie mob > nappy roots > field mob > jim crow

i'll check this song out later. but trife! hasn't it been the south's year for like the last three years? it's the whole reason i started listening to hip hop again after i got sick of all those jazzy no fun new york guys years ago.

i remember seeing this video months ago and saying to myself, "ooh, they sample gary numan's 'cars.' hmmm."

Kool G Rap and DJ Polo covered "Cars" by Gary Numan on The Road to the Riches, I believe....

I've never heard Jim Crow...my favorite overlooked southern rap group is South Circle, who put out an album called Another Day, Another Baller (I think?) on the Suave House label back when MJG and Eightball were the shit....I swear to god that album is absolutely a classic....

I wonder if Jazzy was sampling cars as a tribute to G Rap or is just a big Numan fan....seems like it could go either way...Raps sort of always had a fascination with synth pop way back to Bambaataa and Kraftwerk

The only non-"Cars" Numan song I've ever heard sampled by a rap track was "Down In the Park" hijacked by some Anticon types calling themselves "Restiform Bodies". Fucking hell, I want a club banger based almost entirely off the first four bass notes of "It Must Have Been Years", or the opening synth/rhythm of "Airlane". GET ON THE TUBEWAY NOW PLS RAP PRODUCERS K THX

If you want really wacked out live vintage Gary, check out his performance on "Urgh! A Music War" if you can find it....it's from probably around 80 and features perfomances from both american and english new wave/punk acts incl. Gang of 4, DK, Cramps, Au Pairs, XTC (pre-Partridge stage fright), and Gary has this really elaborate stage set where he rides around on this wierd little sci-fi looking car thingy....kind of like a Rascal for humanoids or something I think he does "In the Park" in the clip

hey the new nappy roots album is really good as well. nappy roots day somehow skips the line between euro hike backpack and moschino jeans (do they wear mosch in us?) perfectly, and the rest of the album features production by banner, saadiq, lil jon and kanye west!

also, t.i. trap music completes the banner/lil jon/crusher square table???
