have you seen em live? they're surprisingly ferocious.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

is this the album that's coming out shortly?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I believe it's coming out early September. You've got some kind of advance-copy, Chris? Please elaborate: what's it like? New directions or involution?

willem (willem), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i recently saw MMJ at Leeds festival in England. They were playing early afternoon on a small stage with a very little audience, but they were one of the best bands i saw all weekend. Which album would you recommend for a introduction to the band?

Matt Dawson (silver_rocket89), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Matt, their debut, "the Tenessee Fire" is a beautiful, if lofi-sounding, album. Follow-up, "At Dawn", is great too & sounds much better, so that may the one to start with...

willem (willem), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, I have an advance copy. Much more rockin than "At Dawn".

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh and the thread title should read "Jacket". Now on tour the Ratpure and My Morning Jackey.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

If you're looking for some songs to download before you buy and album may i reccommend "Come Closer" "Bermuda Highway" and "If it smashes down" i am sure other people have other faves but these are mine.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

also "The Way That He Sings" and "Lowdown"

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:11 (twenty-two years ago)

cheers, when saw them at the festival i was so tired, but they lifted my spirits for the whole day, they have quiet and edge live too.

Matt Dawson (silver_rocket89), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

We were discussing this on the other Jacket thread as well. I still think that the horns on Dancefloor are over the top (in the bad way). Mahgeetah is alright, but I really love some of the heartbreakers near the end (Just One Thing).

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

The "heartbreakers" was what initially turned me on to this band; their music has so much passion in it!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I was listening it to it last night, and it was the first time I ever thought to myself, "That would be a pretty good song to play at my funeral." This wasn't in a morbid way at all, it just had all the delicate soulfulness and thick reverb that puts everything in perspective.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I may come to eat my words on this one but I've been listening to It Still Moves off and on for the past few weeks and I find it, well, boring. I even have trouble listening to the entire album all the way through. I loved At Dawn and Tennesee Fire but this one just seems flat. It is more rockin' but I guess their rock songs just don't do it for me. And the slower ones here just aren't as good as on At Dawn. I don't dislike it but I just don't get the spark that I did off of the first ones. And this has nothing to do with them being on DMB's major label subsidiary. They certainly haven't compromised their sound at all (or length - I think it may be even longer than their first two?).

'it still moves' is most definitely a grower, not a shower... and live, they are about the most awesome rock band playing right now, totally inspirational.

stevie (stevie), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 09:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I get to miss the live show in Boston on 9-16! I'll be on vacation! Damn it!

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

They'll be playing on a friday and saturday night in louisville during their tour. I'm going to one of those.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

This Friday and Saturday?

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been listening to this all morning. Its got me hooked now, yep a grower.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick, Louisville, Sept 26 + 27.

Dale the Titled (cprek), Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I really like the horns on "Dancefloors" (and another track too, I forget which), and the rest of the album is great too - I was worried they were going to do a whole set of "Honest Man"-style jams (yuck!) and luckily there's not even one track like that. Standouts: "Run Thru", "Golden", "Just One Thing".

Simon H., Wednesday, 27 August 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
Their live show Sat. in Louisville was fantastic as expected. This thread didn't get enough attention...
