Let's talk about the new Mis-Teeq single

"Can't Get It Back" is like "Like I Love You"'s cheeky pop cousin, but this time with a chorus. And it's great. The little vocal ticks in the background, the fluidity of the chorus, the first line of each verse being "Verse one,....", "Verse two,....", etc. Obviously it isn't built for Alesha, who is the real star of the group, but she still gets to shout "Hey" in a fairly cool way just after her rap.

This is my favourite song at the moment I think. Is the album worth buying because I quite liked "Scandalous"?

Also, opinions on it please because I don't think it's been mentioned.

Wasn't this their new single about a month ago? It's really really good - the single version that is, the album version is completely different and may well be OK (but less upbeat, more languid, less dynamic in the chorus), but I'm still pissed off that it's not the single versh.

Anyway, it is great, for the post-Britney "kit-kit - kit-kit" vocal tics, the bit where all the instruments drop out and it's just the girls harmonising, the vaguely dark obsessive nature of the lyrics and - though you're right that the song isn't an Alesha vehicle - the way Alesha nevertheless manages to steal the show with what little she has. "Ha! You tiptoe! Just keep your zip closed!" Brr.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the album properly but one song does refer to "the sweet strawberry bruises of the night before", which is slightly perturbing.

Alesha would be great on her own wouldn't she? I'm not really sure how great her singing voice is as the other two seem to get the bulk of the verses but hot damn that girl can MC.

I don't like that single much or most of their stuff (that I've heard) for that matter.

I'm not sure how the album has been selling but every time they release a single it seems to peak at about no. 8 which says something I think. They're good at what they do but it sounds like they're playing catch-up with American trends all the time (I know they started off more garage oriented, I mean since they've re-aligned themselves towards r&b).

the final 'rap' (the girl does that on the judge's desk in the video), the one towards the final chorus, is the only awkward moment in this otherwise fine single.

The first single was far better but I do think that mis-teeq was the one thing missing from the freaky trigger focus group.

I think you can't say too much as to why they are at no.8 or what it means: I mean, they could be 'ahead of their time' and ppl haven't caught up with it yet.
