Parody album covers for SERIOUS bands

Pretty popular all of a sudden. I just saw some dumb band on Dead Teen Records that I can't remember the name of, but their cover was a play on Black Sabbath's "Sabotage" and I think the title was something to do with the word "CAMARO"... they're all standing in front of that mirror that reflects the wrong way and everything.

All I can think when I see these covers is, "LAME!" You know, there's one parodying the Judas Priest "British Steel" cover and there's a million more (most of which probably parody the Never Mind The Bullocks album, I'd guess), but, for me, it means nothing whatsoever. It does not influence me in the least to buy the album, regardless of how much I like the album whose are they happen to be parodying. It says to me, "We suck crap."

I agree with you totatlly, though I love the Stones' "Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out" cover parodying Dylan's "Visions of Johanna."

TS: pushkin vs. pushkinko

Sean (Sean), Thursday, 28 August 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, yeah, Stones, of course, gotta love them, and one more comma for posterity's sake.

BTW, is "pushkin" even a word? I just made it up thinking it sounded cute. It sounds like a little Troll Doll's belly button or something. Or maybe a Pillsbury Doughboy pumpkin.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd just like to point out that the cover art isn't really a "parody" but rather more of an "homage". Also, that looks like the farthest thing from a serious band.

Nick Mirov (nick), Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The last entry doesn't work because:
a) "Supernaut" is a Sabbath cover
b) neither band was "serious"
c) SABBATH RULES OK

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

And yeah, it's an homage too...but apparently so is that Camarosmith, who AMG sez loves loves loves their Sabbath.

gay in a non-homosexual way, for sure.

Natola (Scaredy Cat), Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:17 (twenty-two years ago)

you mean gleeful and cheery?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

You know what would be really cool? If somebody parodied that cover on Sgt. Pepper's! I mean, think of the possibilities: you could put TOTALLY DIFFERENT people on there! Like, instead of Jimi Hendrix, you could have Boz Scaggs! I think I'm going to start me a band right now, just so I can get on this before any of you fuckos steal my idea.

Didn't Zappa do this in the "We're Only in it for the Money" album sleeve?

Adam Harrison-Friday, Thursday, 28 August 2003 03:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoops! Hey Jesse, I guess you'll have to settle for draping you and your bandmates in white smocks, doll parts and raw meat.

Kingfish (Kingfish), Thursday, 28 August 2003 14:56 (twenty-two years ago)

The Philistines Jr. are emphatically not serious.

Hurlothrumbo (hurlothrumbo), Thursday, 28 August 2003 15:05 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Army Song" is, for one.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 28 August 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure they thought they were being serious about them at the time.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 28 August 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)
