Anyone heard of Req or Silencer?

Req's Car Paint Scheme and Silencer's Signals are both recommended by Rough Trade records this week. The latter is all set to bring Breakbeat in to the mainstream apparently. Anyone know either of these and want to point me in the right direction?

req: scratchy, bare, sparse beats. but that makes it sound good. its boring. sometimes i want to like it. but i dont. i did use to like a tune he did called 'cars, girls, money too'.

'Boring' - now that's what the Rough Trade website failed to mention. Thanks - I shall save my well-earned!!!!!

req lp is pretty unimpressive, but the production that Req puts into the Kid Acne lp is superb. go figure !

Req's like Prefuse 73 half the time - fine if you like that sort of thing (i do :)

kid acne is a cool guy, but im not conviced by his tunes. maybe he should stick to drawing. i like the idea of the invisible spies mob though

The REQ album that came out on Warp (Sketchbook) Is the worst thing I've ever heard on the label. Deadly dull and very badly programmed rubbish.

I really liked those three Daily Beats 12" singles that Req released many years ago... haven't heard anything since.

Never bothered with Req again after his 1 LP for Skint. Loved his artwork on my DJ Shadow 10"s though.

I'm listening to this now. I remember thinking it was really bad back in the day but I wanted to check. Ummm... it's not terrible. Kind of just lo-fi, minimal, jazzy, off-grid instrumental hip hop for the most part. I can't say it's making me jump for joy, but it's interesting coming back to albums that stood out to me as "appalling" twenty years ago and revisit with fresh ears.

I thought it was cool but kinda boring. The first Req album really goes down some weird rabbit holes though.
