Reviving this to talk about 4/4 beats. It's funny how differently people react to them. I've always found them kind of energizing and soothing at the same time, the repetition gets meditative, all that. My wife who grew up on '90s indie and pop, plus show tunes, never had a house phase. The beats make her tense, even at low volume, like it's really distracting for her. Which I can totally understand, too. I actually like it as background music when I'm working, the pulse kinda helps me focus. I'd love to see brain scans of different people listening to different kinds of rhythms, I'm sure there's some difference in how people process them.

Also, somebody should make a playlist of this thread.
