Circus Magazine has been covering hard rock and metal for almost 35 years now.

Did you read Circus when you were younger?

Circus was the very first rock mag I ever bought and read on a regular basis (During the mid to late 80s -- the hair metal years)

Do you read Circus today? Why or why not?

Do you know what rock crits got their start at Circus? Kurt Loder, David Fricke, Jim Farber and a bunch of others.

I too read Circus in the mid to late 80's and loved it. I always liked it better than its chief competition (Hit Parader) because it seemed to have longer and more in depth interviews. I do remember when RIP came out it gave Circus a run for its money, but I just bought em both.

I read Circus in the mid-70s. It was OK, nowhere near as good as Creem. I remember they always had really crappy photography. Lots of ugly, sweaty shots of people like Mick Box and Robin Trower. Closeups of Overend Watts' hairy chest. LOTs of Jim Dandy Mangrum. The writing was nothing special, though they did give Lance Loud a regular column. Rock Scene, which was basically a photo fanzine of Lisa and Richard Robinson and all their groovy friends, was much more exciting.

It was fun, though. I love all the rock rags of my youth. I don't think it was quite as metal as the 80s version. They covered a lot of glam and prog and art rock stuff. Oh, there was a sister publication, Circus Raves. I don't really know what the difference was, it looked exactly the same and seemed to target the same audience.

It's still around?
