Where would a person go to buy good used guitars (acoustic) in NYC?
I feel that someone here will know the answer.

i forget the name of it, but there's a big shop on 30th street between seventh and eighth aves, on the south side of the street, that has a great selection of used electrics and pedals downstairs, and a good selection of used acoustics upstairs. it's insanely overpriced, but that's new york.

for high-end stuff, there's mandolin brothers on staten island, which has a fantastic collection of both new and used, and acoustic instruments are their specialty. they've got cheaper stuff, too, but high end is their game.

on the 48th street strip (between sixth and seventh aves), there's a couple of places that always have some used acoustics: 48th street custom and, right across the street (and speaking of insanely overpriced), rudy's.

Thanks. I am asking on behalf of someone, but I think they are looking to buy a Gibson of some kind, so it will probably have to be the high-end places. It's likely to be cheaper in NY than in Europe anyway.

If you find a good guitar and want to travel a few hundred miles and jam in the Balto DC area, Me and Millar will jam with you, plus, if the strings you got on your instrument are shitty, I'll change them and fix the intonation if it's fucked up. My Dad is (and has been for the last 30 years the best string-changer in the Ohio Valley, and I learned from him.

i say go wherever Helltime tells you, cos buying guitars in New York is for suckers. or if your friend has a day to drive the three and a half hours to Providence, Rhode Island, he should do it, it's a boring stretch of I-95 but even with gas and travel it'll make his Gibson a relative bargain.

Thank you all for the advice. I suppose will advise buying outside New York. Helltime - I will pass on the kind invitation.

I guess I must've thought that NY was the place for used guitars because someone from there said that people were selling their guitars and buying turntables.

Actually, strike that: I've just heard that they're selling their turntables and buying guitars.
