Incredible String Band beat them all to it and totally fucked up their career in the process: "Wee Tam" and "The Big Huge", 1968.

Dadaismus (Dada), Sunday, 31 August 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Maudlin Of The Well - "Bath" and "Leaving Your Body Map"

Øystein Holm-Olsen (Øystein H-O), Sunday, 31 August 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

on nov. 4, 2001, robert pollard released 14 albums simultaneously, using such pseudonyms as jay-z, dmx, linkin park, pink, bright eyes, desaparecidos, future bible heroes, radiohead, bjork, hazzard hot rods, and ashanti. it's generally considered the most astounding feat in the history of popular music.

and on new year's eve 1966/1967, the beatles simultaneously released the contract-fulfilling hits retrospective "1962-1966" ("the red album") and the visionary "1967-1970" ("the blue album"), in which they accurately predicted -- and wrote -- all of their hits for the next four years.

Did Pearl Jam release all their live albums on the same day?

Yes, they did. I'll give you that one since I didn't stress it was supposed to be studio albums :-)

what about the magnetic fields? "69 love songs" was released as both a box set and as three separate albums. the only real difference between that and "use your illusion" is that stephin made all three available in a box and axl didn't. that, and the fact that the mag fields albums had 69 songs whereas the gnr albums had only 30, including two covers and two versions of the same song.

I was going to say the Frank Black ones.

I guess I'll add Quasi- The Sword of God + Early Recordings. Eh, I don't know if that counts.

The Quasi one was a re-issue of "Early Recordings", it first came out in 96 or something.

Brian the Snorf, Tuesday, 2 September 2003 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

the paul westerberg deal was sort of a reissue, too. he took an already-released grandpaboy album and reissued it as a bonus disc with his most recent solo album.

I'm pretty sure Kool Keith's Black Elvis/Lost in Space and Dr. Dooom (aka Kool Keith duh) First Come First Served came out on the same day in 1999.

I might be wrong. < /thom yorke>
