Remember NOT to stream.

I've never heard anything else by Manilow, but Copacabana, besides the cheesiness of the delivery and Manilow himself, is an inspired piece of songwriting.

You'd have to be one morose mofo not to fall for it.

Now rip me to shreds

"but that was 20 years ago, when there used to be a show"--CLASSIC

From a musical perspective it's a stunner, catchier than the common cold and beatifully arranged. Plus, kudos to Manilow for the tongue-in-cheek backing vocals ("Copacabana! Have a banana!").

one year passes...
Watching "An Evening With Barry Manilow" on BBC1... he's quite the showman, isn't he?

Anyway, yeah, classic.

A childhood fave, so, CLASSIC. Supposedly, Manilow had to revise this song a jillion times to please the A&R mooks at his label. They were concerned that the public wouldn't get the storyline.

an inspired piece of songwriting.

Oh DO give me a break, won't you?

now this applies to fondly remembered electroclash nights

It's "thirty years ago" in the lyric, though, now Barry needs to do a new "grunge throwback" version.

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 29 March 2023 00:44 (three years ago)

It was thirty years ago when the songs all started slow

Which reminds me: One time I visited my cousin in Madrid in the early 90s and he asked me to bring along some American magazines since they were several weeks behind in Spain. He requested both Us and People, iirc. One of them had an interview with Frank Sinatra Jr. which particularly interested him, especially the following quote: “My father thinks there are no good songs being written anymore, but I disagree. ‘Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl.” I ended up hearing this many more times during that trip, at least once per day.
