every time i hear the outro on 'one in a million' i wish it was a whole song

minna (minna), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:00 (twenty-two years ago)

the sax solo in aisha by death in vegas should loop for ages.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:09 (twenty-two years ago)

There no such thing. Minimalist "music" sucks.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:22 (twenty-two years ago)

erm

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The end of Wichita Lineman

Jez (Jez), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

There no such thing. Minimalist "music" sucks.

Oh come on - hat's a real generalisation. Most of Serge Gainsbourg's best pop is based purely on short loops. If something sounds good, why not repeat it?

Jez (Jez), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

The vignettes on Boards of Canada's "Music Has the Right to Children" sound better than most of the actual tracks. I'm not sure whether they'd work as full-blown tracks, however. Some of them might.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the outro for New Order "True Faith" should've gone on a further 20 minutes

dave q, Monday, 1 September 2003 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

this is silly anyway, extrapolating an interlude into a full song needn't mean simply looping it. that's not what i intended anyway - in fact i would hope for the aaliyah outro to be built up into a proper song! so geir your comment is unfounded.

minna (minna), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

There's this bit on the Faust Tapes...

Damian (Damian), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:50 (twenty-two years ago)

coming to the end of 'a hard day's night' there's the invention of
a) the byrds
b) all britpop ever
etc etc.

u know the bit ?
'you know i fee-el all-riiight...'
then it goes 'jingle jangle jingle jangle' for 15 seconds.

piscesboy, Monday, 1 September 2003 10:51 (twenty-two years ago)

haha good question but I can't think of anything right now.

x-post: so minna, do you mean a really good bit of a song that could be used as a 'backbone' in another song (but it must be a song).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 1 September 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

all the Basement Jaxx 'ludes' on their albums

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 September 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

yes julio, exactly

minna (minna), Monday, 1 September 2003 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the horns in 'crazy in love' or that javine single.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 1 September 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

the horns in 'crazy in love'

i heard the original which has more horns but can't remember what it was or who it's by

stevem (blueski), Monday, 1 September 2003 12:00 (twenty-two years ago)

well the horns on Crazy in Love are FROM another track by the Chi-lites unless im mistaken...?

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Monday, 1 September 2003 12:01 (twenty-two years ago)

The first song on Lush's "Spooky" seems like it would keep going. Thats a really spooky song - its good like it is but it would be the shit if it was extended and made into like this looping-nightmare song.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Monday, 1 September 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

That "boong-ding" bit from "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I mean, it's the only part of the song anyone likes, they had a good thing going there, why not some more of it?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 1 September 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

The first 10 seconds of 'Rome' by Horace Andy, which sounds exactly like some hip hop beat from the mid-90s.

oops (Oops), Monday, 1 September 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

One of such li'l bits I've sometimes wondered about appears between "Cry Baby Cry" and "Revolution #9" on The White Album.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The bit that lives between "Honey Power" and "Moon Song" on MBV's Tremolo, which is way-too-few seconds of what I imagine gets played at the Great Wrecka Stow in the Sky.

d.w., Tuesday, 2 September 2003 00:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes I totally agree Minna re "One In A Million" - the ending sounds a bit like a Disco Inferno b-side!

also:
- the outro to the Rishie Rish bhangra-hop mix of Mis-Teeq's "Roll On"
- the outro to Jay-Z's "What They Gonna Do"
- the wibbly trance bridge in Basement Jaxx's "Romeo"
- the "la la da la" female vocal bit in B2K's "Bump Bump Bump"

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i once played the outro to "one in a million" 23 times in a row.

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

the intro to... ah... "sweet emotion", I believe it is. First 45 seconds or so are swell, then the song starts.

nick ring (nick ring), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 04:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Also duh The Avalanches *all the time*

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

lovely rita... before it gets all hokey paul on you

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

The intro to Flock of Seagulls- I Ran.

I'm surprised nobody yet mentioned the Damned & intro to "Smash it up" on Machine Gun Ettiquette, it's classic.

sucka (sucka), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

autechre have some amazing outros - witness "stud" and "piezo". I could listen to the outro to piezo looped for hours

Elliot (Elliot), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 06:13 (twenty-two years ago)

the middle bit of Air's 'Radian'. one of my favourite bits in music ever. although, maybe it's the 5 min. of electronic noodling around it that makes it stand out so much.

Agreed on Wichita Lineman's end. best song ever.

Oh, and the intro. 4 notes of Underworld's 'Pearl's Girl'

derrick (derrick), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 06:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course! The ending of Underworld's "Cups". Which then does become it's own song on their live album.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 06:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Mya's "That's Why I Wanna Fight" and Brandy's "What About Us" - Rodney Jerkins was keen on making songs with their best moments tucked at the end at this stage (00-01).

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 06:36 (twenty-two years ago)

The intro to the Church's "Myrrh", and about 2 or 3 of the middle sections from Tortoise's "Djed."
