Both a little old, but with new versions coming out (Radio 4's remix album, Rapture's Echoes), maybe the gold standard of disco punk primed for mainstream(ish) success?

Everybody Dance Now by C&C Music Factory ownz them both

Best "disco punk" song was either "Struggle" or "Beat Connection", my friend and I decided this yesterday.

(if past tense is appropriate.. hope not)

Sonny A. (Keiko), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

of those two HOJL of course -Dance to the underground is pretty lame in my opinion. I go for "Losing my Edge"(new) or "Contort Yourself" (old) as the ultimates.

I don't really get all the fuss about House Of Jealous Lovers. I mean I like it, but I prefer Out Of The Races And Onto The Tracks or something.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 1 September 2003 19:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I perfer Olio - the dfa version.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

No, he goes into Robert Smith overdrive in that one.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i know - thats what i like about it!

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll go for 'contort yourself' (new).

stirmonster, Monday, 1 September 2003 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Monday, 1 September 2003 20:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry about that, I picked a semirandom thread to debug why I can't post on here anymore and suddenly I can.

HOJL, then, with a big shout for C&C Music Factory (Jj Jj j j Jj Jj j j Jj Jj j j everybody dance now!)

Mike (mratford), Monday, 1 September 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

House of Jealous Lovers (Morgan Geist remix) is the winner (of the battle, not the 'best disco punk ever thing)

Robin Goad (rgoad), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

"Me & Giuliani Down By The School Yard (A True Story)" owns this thread. For me anyway. And, I suspect, for Ronan too.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 07:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes indeed. I do love HoJL but Sister Saviour is my fave Rapture tune.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 07:47 (twenty-two years ago)

House of Jealous Lovers is a bit more energetic than Dance to the Underground, so it probably wins. Although if we're talking about the version with Har Mar Superstar on the bongos, then it's a close competition.

person#0 (person#0), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't understand the fuss about Giuliani - i think it's dull as ditchwater.

jed_e_3 (jed_e_3), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 10:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Try "...Giuliani..." loud and also through headphones. I love it to bits. Single of the year alongside Lumidee, Justin, Outkast and lots of others...

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 11:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay i will persevere - it sounds like level 42 to me - except that i think i prefer Starchild to this.
