Not classical. EAR & Aphex Twin I know about.

In any genre, what are the best albums that have NOT ONE WORD on them?

oh, and let's NOT include "white-noise" type stuff, machinery etc.

You might find something on this thread, p'haps:
Where's all the contemporary instrumental music that isn't classical, jazz, New Age, electronic dance, or wild-eyed free improv?

love of diagrams "the target is you" is an excellent (almost entirely) instrumental album and it's great sonic youth-meets-the clean stuff (disclaimer: one song has vocals, but it's easy to program out, as it's the weakest track)

The new Do Make Say Think is wonderful instrumental rock. Noisy and quiet and full of different sounds.

Shuttle 358 - Understanding Wildlife

Do you mind voice samples (as in short snippets of spoken word)? If not, Biosphere - Substrata

damian_nz (damian_nz), Tuesday, 2 September 2003 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, and there's a New Zealand band called Jakob who do the emotional-wall-of-noise-guitar thing a la Mogwai, but more 'purely' perhaps. They have an album called Subsets of Sets on Midium records which is the shiznit. Their new one Cale:Drew (also on Midium) has some singing in one or two tracks but is also very good.

tons and tons of Indian raga, David Bowie - All Saints compilation, Liquid Liquid!!!, Tortoise, Muslimgauze, Fuxa, John Zorn, many many more, this is way too broad a category.

to me this is equivalent to asking: recommend me some music WITH lyrics

the majority of jazz, classical, electronic, and dub (although there's lil bits of lyrics in it, ain't there?), for starters.
