90's ambient artist, no info on the web, any info would be appreciated.

real name is Ralf Wehowsky. Wouldn't call him "ambient" per se. Was in P.16.D4 back in the 1980s. Runs a label called Selektion. Some of his stuff is really great.

His 5 CD set 'Tulpas', curated remixes, is an amazing piece of work. It's a remix album that still comes across entirely as an expression of the original artist. participants here on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000003S8Y/starshopcom-wireless-20/102-1529401-3619348

He does utilize drones but I'd hesitate to use the term ambient to describe his work. He founded the industrial group P16.D4 in the early 80's.

I enjoyed his album 'Pullover', would be interested in checking out more if anyone has any recommendations.

I have only heard a single album, I do not remember much about it other than the fact that it was released in the early 90's and it featured an SY77 synth. Other than that, I don't know anything about it. I have not actually listened to the album since about 1998, I just remember liking it at the time.

sorry to crosspost the P16.D4 thing with stencil, but they were an interesting group so all the more mentions... very good, raw, cassette concrete. he's one of those people I always mean to check out more of.

Interestingly enough, my research tells me that Achim Sczepanski of Mille Plateaux fame was a former member p16.d4.

yeah I have those, all three of 'em. The third one just came out on some non-Swill label. I don't remember anything that totally blew me away like the prime P16.D4 stuff. I'll give 'em another listen and report back, but I don't think they're essential or anything.

by the way, the new RLW record is called "Ikk-purpur" and is very very good.

I have the first and second one.

I didn't realize the third one was on a different label! I do remember that it came out later than the other two.

I don't remember much about them, to be honest. But I do still love 13 and Acht. I just pulled them out a couple months ago actually... still sounded great

14 that is. not 13. i lost one of the cards and need a new copy.

Stormy Davis, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 03:24 (eighteen years ago)

i only have the first two as well.

hstencil, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

If the p16.d4 recordings are better, any recommendations on those? I have the Masse Menche compilation.

Tim Ellison, Tuesday, 24 July 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

unfortunately I think all the Sonoris reissues of P16.D4 are out of print. My favorite is "Acrid Acme Of P16D4" (on Selektion) with "Tionchor" a close second. I also dig the "Three Projects" CD. For Wehowsky solo, I'd recommend 14, a good overview of different periods.
