Best use of the Bo Diddley beat (roughly translated: thunka-thunka-thunk THUNK! THUNK!) by an artist other than Bo Biddley?

Bowie, "Up the Hill Backwards"
Stones, "Not Fade Away"

I'm Sorry I Love You by Magnetic Fields

I Want Candy by The Strangeloves

Does Bo Diddley by Buddy Holly count?

And the worst use is surely George Michael's Faith.

No, the ABSOLUTE worst is the Doors' "Who Do You Love", with Ray Manzarek on vox

A great one I forgot: Rudie Can't Fail by the Clash

Practically every song by the Gories.

Absolutely HORRIBLE use: U2, "Desire"

Much better use: Jane's Addiction, "Stop"

Diddley Variants: B-52s "Strobe Light", X "I Am the Hungry Wolf". Or are those surf rhythms? Anyway, most gratuitous use to Demonstrate EclecticismL Elvis Costello "Lover's Walk"..

Does anyone recall the jesus & mary chain using a diddley-beat on one of their own songs, or am I just thinking of their cover of "who do you love"?

fritz, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Didn't they use it on like every song?

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

no it's the "be my baby" beat on every song. subtle difference.

fritz, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Someone with a good multi-track editor and an even better ear must put together a Diddley-beat mix, seamlessly running all of these tracks into one another. One listen would probably make your head explode.
