Really pretty into this new one, maybe even a little more than Southern Rock Opera. Anyone heard it?

ALSO - anyone know where I can find a copy (cdr dubs ok) of Patterson Hood's tour-only album? will trade / pay

Yeah, I dig "Decoration Day" a lot. I love "Marry Me" -- I think it's the most Skynyrd-esque song they've done.

I'm surprised Lost Highway didn't want it. What did they expect?

I just interviewed PH last week. If I'd known about the solo record, I would have asked.

Did Pat Hood strike you as a transparent jerk? Those of us who knew him long ago usually came away with that impression. You should have asked him if he ever wrote a song for Adam's House Cat that wasn't about a fucking train.

"Decoartion Day" is my favorite record of the year so far. I think the experience of making Southern Rock Opera was a good one for the group, as it gave them an added dose of realism and taught them how to rock a little looser, which helps on the title track, "Marry Me" and a few of Hood's country tunes. They also have a very unique, colloquial style of lyric writing that gives their thoughts or everyday life, romance and Southern conditions/history a nice gravity -- "Rock n roll means well/But it can't help telling young boys lies." Wow.

Agreed, and I think Cooley's songs on this record are really fantastic. You can hear the analog clips on his vox, it's AWESOME.

I keep coming back to "Sink Hole" (obviously - how KILLER is that track?) and "My Sweet Annette" which is a song I bet Tweedy would kill to write.

Only one I really don't like is "Your Daddy Hates Me," that one kinda sucks

any leads on that Patterson Hood solo cd, please email me!

Nah, Hood didn't strike me as a jerk at all. He really liked talking about how great he thinks the new record is, but that didn't surpise me. And he was pretty long-winded -- but I like interviewees who go off on tangents. Makes it easier for me.

Well, good for him. If you'd have interviewed him 8 years ago, he'd just tell you about how great he thinks he is.

He is pretty fucking great.
