It uses the same motor as the SL-1200 and appears to have all the same features as the Pioneer CDJ-1000, as far as I can tell.

Sorry I know this isn't really a question, but JESUS CHRIST

i still want to know where the record goes.

jed (jed_e_3), Monday, 15 December 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, as long as I can still carry heavy cases down narrow flights of stairs at 6AM, I'm all for it -- and sure looks like this fits the bill.

What's a "free wheel"?

Ian Christe (Ian Christe), Monday, 15 December 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

it's beautiful, yes, but the mixer just looks like wasted space to me.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What's a "free wheel"?

my guess: disengages the direct drive? no that doesn't make sense, you figure they'd already have a provision to simulate a slipmat.

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

This is a CD player, correct?

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 15 December 2003 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Kinda weird to make a big deal about "direct drive" -- like some CD players use rubber belts?

Mark (MarkR), Monday, 15 December 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

not all turntables do, though. i'm assuming the whole thing around the cd player is spinning.

People who only DJ with high-tech cd players C/D

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 15 December 2003 20:32 (twenty-two years ago)

he's picturing 2008!

vahid (vahid), Monday, 15 December 2003 20:36 (twenty-two years ago)

can i touch it?

kephmas, Monday, 15 December 2003 21:23 (twenty-two years ago)

How is this thing not functional? The whole idea behind the Pioneers and the SL-DZ1200 is to be as much a practical & sturdy DJ tool as possible, not to look stylish or deliver ultra-high-end sound quality.

BTW the slider on the right (next to the reset button) is the pitch (tempo) control, not a mixer.

One cool thing about this player is the support for SD cards - finally scratch-free solid state media in the booth!

Siegbran (eofor), Monday, 15 December 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

It should also play vinyl!

well for one IT'S FUCKING GIGANTIC!! most bars/clubs where i live mount the cd-dj (usually a pioneer) above the turntables. this is like you'd make the bar owner pick which kind. and no, i don't think club owners are going to buy these in addition to turntables and swap them in and out according to the djs whims. my comment about super-high-end: only really rich clubs/hobbyists are going to be able to afford one. and no, of course i don't mean the sultan of brunei, but hey, plenty of clubs where i live can't even afford technics for the dj (california != clubland paradise). i'm sure fabric and the ministry of sound will pick a pair up, sure.

no, i was actually referring to the mixer. to the right of the sl-dz1200.
