My votes would go for two Freeway songs -- "Flipside" and "Line 'Em Up." Both are just sublime.

Of Course, also can't front on "In Da Club" ...

"In Da Club"... I just heard the new Ludacris 10 minutes ago on shitty TV speakers but the beat sounded fuuuunnnkkyyy

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

"Theme from Fannypack"!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Judges, does "Belly Dancer" count?

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Sure, it's all inclusive ... ;-)

Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"Flipside" and "Pump It Up" would be high on my list...it's been a good year for Blaze. Lil Jon, too, esp. "Get Low" and "Damn".

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup, Lil' Jon has had a pretty good year. So has David Banner ... I'm not much on the lyrics or hook to "Like a Pimp" (same ol' shit, ya know?), but that beat is fantastic, as is "Bring it On" and "Cadillac on 22s."

Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Timbaland for Lil Kim's ' the jump off'

scottjames23 (worrysome-man), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:21 (twenty-two years ago)

"Crazy in Love"
"Open Book" by Foxy Brown

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

My votes would go for two Freeway songs -- "Flipside" and "Line 'Em Up." Both are just sublime.

If by "sublime" you mean, "Jess Harvell, will you marry me?"

jaymc (jaymc), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Naw, that's o.k. I'm sure Jess has plenty of other, more appropriate suitors. ;-)

I came to the record late, what can I say? I also kinda like "All My Life," with that weird aluminum-can liquid pouring percussion effect.

Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Coincidentally, judging by our recent contentious ILM interaction, don't think Jess and I will share malted milkshakes anytime soon ... s'all good though ... homeboy knows his beats.

This shit is fun ...

Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:32 (twenty-two years ago)

s trife top ten 03 beats i can remember right now!!

10) bone crusher - puttin in work
9) drag-on - dirty funk
8) 50 cent - crazy
7) nas - get down
6) bubba - comin round
5) chingy - right thurr
4) david banner - might getcha
3) diddy/nelly/murphy lee - shake ya tailfeather
2) three six mafia - fuck that shit
1) (reserved for beat from upcoming jigga single)

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 6 September 2003 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

"Comin' Round" is DEFINITELY the strangest (and quite possibly the catchiest--"Belly Dancer" would be a close second for pure infectiouesness, I guess and after that "Two Words" from the Kanye West mixtape) beat I've heard all year. I eagerly await the GREAT promo sell-off of Bubba's record so's I can find it in a dollar bin (like I did the last one) and finally listen to the whole thing.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 6 September 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

whats the song on the kayne tape with consequence, its a gorgeous funny love jam abt a girl named linda and has a dude talking on the intro 'im an old nigga and i like to step, kayne west makes beats i can step to!!'

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 6 September 2003 07:45 (twenty-two years ago)

It's too late here for me to put on the CD and check it, but is it "Out the Game"? (I have I'm Good--that's the only Consequence track on there--and not Get Well Soon so if it's on the latter I have no idea.)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Saturday, 6 September 2003 07:50 (twenty-two years ago)

yes!!! hes leaving the game because of his girl!!! theres a great slice-of-life lyrical bit where his friends at the bar toast to his newfound burden, its one of my fav verses this year, i was avoiding before it since i already had most of the songs on it but i really need that kayne tape

trife (simon_tr), Saturday, 6 September 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, it's "Out The Game". he has another song w/ Consequence that's on GWS (and will be on the College Dropout) called "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly", which I think is far and away his best solo track. I have all his mixtapes (GWS, I'm Good, the Behind The Beats instrumentals one, and the Akademiks one), and there's a lot of overlap between them, but each has something exclusive worth having, and i'm a fiend for his stuff anyway.

Keith Murray - Say Goodnite

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 6 September 2003 15:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I just downloaded "Say Goodnite" -- great... How is the rest of the album?

Sonny A. (Keiko), Saturday, 6 September 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The goodness of the "In Da Club" beat (and it is great) is ruined by Fdsn's refusal to spit any suitable "I kill you with fist" lyrics over it.

Anyway, b.o.t.y. is the one on "Big N Bashy" by Fallacy ft Tubby T (I think it's a Fusion beat). That thing's fatter than Brando.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 6 September 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

"Magic Stick" (way) > "In the Club" (IMHO)

nickalicious (nickalicious), Saturday, 6 September 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

david banner ft pastor troy - fuck em
sharkey major - so many days (not really hip hop but it merks most us beats ive heard this year!)
freeway - what we do
joe budden f lil mo - she wanna no
so solid - colder
lil jon - throw it up
bubba sparxx - nowhere

sean g, Saturday, 6 September 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the beat for joe budden's "stand up nucca" is pure class.

vahid (vahid), Saturday, 6 September 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

The Keith Murray album is pretty good. Erick Sermon does four tracks and they are all brilliant as usual. Most of the tunes are good, but its not an album that I tihnk I'll be reachin for for years to come, like his first one.

Johnny Badlees (crispssssss), Saturday, 6 September 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

oops i meant "give me reason" not "stand up nucca"

vahid (vahid), Sunday, 7 September 2003 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't heard enough to comment really but I love "Magic Stick" and Jay-Z's "Stop" in particular (yay for the return of Swizz Beats in quality beatz mode!)

I listened to the David Banner album at a store and couldn't immediately see what was supposed to grab me (the beats occasionally intricate but in that very Southern Bounce sort of way where it's all window-dressing for a straightforward groove, not as far-out as primo Mannie Fresh). Is this the album I should start with iTnsofar as hip hop circa 03 or is there a better bet? The Three 6 Mafia maybe? Bonecrusher?

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Sunday, 7 September 2003 09:29 (twenty-two years ago)

is the new luda "stand up" (feat shawna)? it's pretty hot. timbo? sounds it.
