Dead Kennedys... without Jello?

Yes, they've won in court, reformed, and now they're playing shows in the near future. The Dead Kennedy's without Jello is like soup without liquid.. unthinkable, and sort of sad that the other guys would sink so low as to find a scab to 'replace' him. My question: any other similar reformations or albums where one can only ask, "my God, what are they thinking?"

Aigh. Another one bites the dust. I mean, I haven't listened to them in years, but "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" was the album (along with "Fear of a Black Planet") that changed *everything* for me back in the day...

I'm hesitating, but I'd say EVERY reunion is misguided...

I agree, Andy....it's positively unthinkable. I do concede that East Bay Ray's guitar is vital to the sound of the band, but without Jello's presence (lyrically, vocally, etc.), it's just not the same band. It'd be like the Stooges without Iggy....pointless.

The only other bands I can think of who've pulled off this sort've trick are yawnsome middle-of-the-road bands like Journey, Styx and Genesis (all of these bands currently hitting the boards without their original frontmen). Bands *HAVE* succeeded at this, though. The Bad Brains went on without H.R. for a while (though he'd later return to the fold). My beloved, much-maligned Stranglers continue to trudge on without Hugh Cornwell....which is equally a sham, but people do still show up to see them. I don't understand it either.

I wouldn't say that *EVERY* reunion is misguided. The Sex Pistols are probably the quintessential example of a band that shouldn't have reunited, but did anyway (forever sullying their legacy.....arguably on purpose, if you believe Lydon). The Buzzcocks managed to reform without completely embarassing themselves. The Soft Boys went back out on the road to positive results (although looking a bit greyer and rounder). The Velvet Underground reunion was a sad affair...not least because Sterling shuffled off this mortal coil soon afterwards. I'm sure people would still line up in droves to see the original Van Halen re-group (which they're rumored to be doing). That tour would make the Kiss' interminable Farewell Tour look like a Lemonade stand, proceeds-wise.

who's taking jello's place? pretty fool-hardy move on their part.

who would you LIKE to sing for the dead kennedies?

From what I hear, it's Brandon Cruz, of Dr. Know and Dag Nasty fame. Also a child actor, from the TV show "The Courtship of Eddie's Father", with Bill Bixby.

Something in me is saying Axl Rose...I mean, he's not doing anything right now...

I was hoping it'd be Jerry Brown. :)

INXS re-forming without Hutchence is the greater crime AFAIC

And for some strange reason, Marillion are out there in some provinicial students' union somewhere still ploughing their Fish-less furrow.

None more pointless, surely.

Return of the Living Kennedys.

Journey w/out Steve Perry is pretty absurd, unless they go back to being a prog band. I wonder what happens if the Retread Kennedys try to play at Gilman?

Um , DK are one of my favourite bands but can't they end it gracefully? I'll still go and see them thou - how sad am I.
