outkast's 'land of a million drums' Vs. MC hammer's 'addams groove'.

I just heard the outkast one for the first time [I know it came out last year, etc.] and my first reaction was that it was sub-hammer cop/sell-out/tie-in.

my second reaction was that it wasn't.

The OutKast song blows Hammer's away ... even if it as ad for f'n Scooby Doo.

yeah its brilliant!! amazingly it was one of three outkast singles in a row that i really liked til that shitty new one came out

trife (simon_tr), Monday, 8 September 2003 04:01 (twenty-one years ago)

both the new ones are shitty?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 04:11 (twenty-one years ago)

ive only heard andre's horrible indie rock/flaming lips one

trife (simon_tr), Monday, 8 September 2003 04:18 (twenty-one years ago)

"Land of A Million Drums" and that first jam offa the Andre and Big Boi presents... CD are both fucking BADASS! Between those and whatever-song-has-the-chorus-that-goes-"follow the lights they lead to something" on the Dungeon Fam. CD, I dunno, it's like I could drive straight into a telephone pole listenin' to that shit and die with a smile on my face, y'know?

Killer Mike will never top this:

Woke up from a long night of hanging out with Shaggy
Oh no, lost my last baggy of scoobie snackies
Shaggy wake up, we've been had
Our scooby snacks they got the whole stash
He said, who who, I don't have a clue
I suspect the thirteen ghosts of Scoobie Doo
Call Vincent Price up on the Nextel
Tell him to send another package right through the mail
In the meantime, I'mma call Thelma to tell her
To get the Mystery Machine ready
I'm 2-wayin' Daphne and Freddy
Me and Shaggy dressed in all black, strapped
Dippin through the flash trying to get our stash back
Roundin up suspects, colletion' clues
I got a question, where the hell is Scooby Doo when you need him?
The hound's only found when you feed him
In fact he probably got my sack
Tell him hollar back

I remember watching that Scooby Doo DVD with a friend and falling asleep and at the end they play that shit over and over. I woke up a few times for a second or two and heard it and would go back to sleep. The next day it was one of my favorite Outkast songs. I never really had any special moments with Hammer.

i thought it was 'Shaggy said boo hoo I don't have a clue' - it's a good tune but the lyrics are cringey

'Tha Whole World' actually sounds a lot like 'Addams Groove'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, because all songs in 6/8 sound the same.

(AKA "You are a mentalist, my good man.")

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

what if that's what he meant?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:29 (twenty-one years ago)

actually no, i think one day i just started doing the rap from 'Addams Groove' over 'Tha Whole World''s music in my head and it goes perfect

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 September 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

One of the greatest joys I've experienced in life has been hearing my son sing along with "The Whole World".

By the way, in addam's groove, there was always a line that sounded to me like "kickin' the saffapants." It was in the chorus, something like, "They do what they want to do/say what they want to say/live how they want to live/play how they want to play/blah blah blah blah blah/KICKIN' THE SAFFAPANTS/the Addam's Family!"

I never knew what saffapants were, I was assuming it was Hammer's own secret slang for those genie pants he used to rock. Can anyone help me out with the real lyrics, or if saffapants are real, what the hell he means by that???

This used to really upset me.

Saffapants 4 Life,
Matt

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 8 September 2003 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

it's actually 'kick and then slap a friend'

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 September 2003 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

no, 'jiggling, they snuffle for it'.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 22:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm...kick and then slap a friend....that's mean! Sounds like it's probably right though....oh well, I guess saffapants were too good to be true....

Matt Helgeson (Matt Helgeson), Monday, 8 September 2003 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

scooby doo was a pretty good movie too

trife (simon_tr), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

better than addams family at least, though of course not better than addams family values
