"Honestly, I think we should just trust our President in every decision that he makes, and we should just support that."

- Britney Spears, pop star, responding to a question froM CNN analyst Tucker Carlson on whether she supports the war in Iraq.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:13 (twenty-one years ago)

she doesn't even know if she's a girl or a woman, feh

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Tucker Carlson in asking a stupid question shocker.

Did he just ask her that so that he could use the clip in a piece about why celebrities shouldn't have opinions?

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Tucker Carlson in asking a stupid question shocker.

This is in no way a defense of Tucker Carlson, but why do you think that's a stupid question, Dave? Granted, Tucker invariably had an agenda, but why do you consider asking a prominent public figure about their stance on a global issue a stupid move?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Tucker Carlson?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

.. I mean why did Tucker Carlson think that Britney Spears would have anything insightful to say about politics? There are quite a few intelligent celebrities who do have interesting opinions.. Brit is not one of them. Who's on tonight? Melanie Griffith?

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 8 September 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I reas that a few days ago and it annoyed me too. I'm sure that her mentality towards authority figures is what got her where she is today though.

shut up, Monday, 8 September 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

"There are quite a few intelligent celebrities who do have interesting opinions" = "There are quite a few intelligent celebrities who have the same opinion as me."

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 8 September 2003 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

No.. While I'm not usually in agreement with Ted Nugent, I like to hear him talk & I respect his opinions.

dave225 (Dave225), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"Impeach Bush, for dropping that dog on it's head"

Stacey Orrico, yesterday

stevem (blueski), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

that photo of bush dropping the dog is the second best thing after the adam ant thing

gabbo giftington (dubplatestyle), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's a pretty safe bet that Tucker was angling for just this type of answer, safely assuming Britney couldn't find Iraq on a map, much less be able to express an informed opinion about current events.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

The Popbitch "pramface"-style snobbery and misogynism that lie behind this thread I find pretty nauseating.

Of course it's perfectly acceptable for, say, Jaz Coleman to have ill-informed right-wing opinions, hmm?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 8 September 2003 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Marcello, that's the worst instigation attempt ever (which of course means Alex will be all over it like white on processed rice, hah).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course it's perfectly acceptable for, say, Jaz Coleman to have ill-informed right-wing opinions, hmm?

To which I responed, who has more influence? Jaz or Britney?

To answer your question, whether you agree with Coleman's opinions or not, you'd be the minsinformed one to write him off as the idiot of the same caliber Britney Spears proves herself to be.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

minceinformed.

kaliber.

sorry, nothing of use to add. nothing at all. not just me, I mean.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

In my ire, I mistype. Sue me.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

you'd expect more people to dismiss britney-opinions pretty readily.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

readilier?

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

caliber

What's your problem with this word?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

tony hancock.

no, I know this is how it is spelled in the USA. it reminds me of kaliber is all.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

people like britney so much more than george w. i'd say they like either more than people who slate britney though.

that's people though.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

...misogynism that lie behind this thread I find pretty nauseating.

This thread would be no different had the quote been made by one of Britney's male counterparts, from Timberlake to Rob Thomas. Idiocy knows no gender distinction.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(I am OTM.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Why, if it's the same opinion? And why is that opinion necessarily "wrong" or "idiotic"?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 8 September 2003 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Are you familiar with our current sitting President George W. Bush, Marcello?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes. Are you?

Marcello Carlin, Monday, 8 September 2003 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, why are you even replying to Marcello?

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 8 September 2003 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahahaha.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:00 (twenty-one years ago)

marcello makes a good point.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That being?

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ally, you are perilously close to raining on my parade.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

what's wrong with what marcello is saying?

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you agree that people in authority should be enthusiastically supported without question and without reservation? Is every decision made by a person in power automatically the right decision?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Britney's kneejerk acceptance and blind faith in the doctrice of the Bush administration implies abject idiocy to me. If that quote came from Bono or Jaz Coleman or Gavin Friday or Phillip Glass or Laurie Anderon or Sporty Spice or Jon Spencer or Phyllis Diller, I'd feel the same way towards them. But, it didn't. It came from Britney, so she becomes the lucky recipient of that derision.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

(oh no i'm being sucked into the vortex help me mommy)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's true. The jaw-dropping stupidity of her statement isn't in the politics of it. A comment like "we should just trust __________ in every decision that he makes and we should just support that" is mind-numbingly simean no matter who she's talking about.

shut up, Monday, 8 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

simean!!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Calling Britney Spears an idiot is misogynistic is it? Oh fuck off.

Dadaismus (Dada), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think it's misogyny to laugh at Britney's comments. If anything, I'd rather that female performers not act like a bimbo in public.

Don't forget that Fred Durst made some equally dumb vague "anti-war" statement at some awards show.

Kerry (dymaxia), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:13 (twenty-one years ago)

simean, indeed,

I love music!

RJG (RJG), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

''Do you agree that people in authority should be enthusiastically supported without question and without reservation?''

does it actually make any difference either way? Lets face it, ppl can support or disapprove of the person in power but its all to do with what happens during the election, or which name you cross at the ballot.

If she criticised him there would be lots of cynicism round here too.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

does it actually make any difference either way?

No, it doesn't. Well, I'm glad we got that cleared up.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 8 September 2003 15:18 (twenty-one years ago)

julio i know i am risking turning this idiotic thread into some sort of half-assed political debate here, but: do you honestly think the only political action that matters is voting?

"Mommy mistakes"

Marmot 4-Tay (marmotwolof), Friday, 16 June 2006 03:41 (nineteen years ago)

Eh, this was pretty boring.
They showed that video of her almost dropping her baby with a drink in her other hand. She slipped on some "cobblestones". Showed the other "controversial" pics of her driving with her baby on her lap, which she explained as "country" and besides she was in a hurry (to get away from paparazzi), and the one with the car seat facing the wrong way. She broke down when Matt Lauer asked "What do you think it will take for the paparazzi to leave you alone? Is that your greatest wish?"

She said she's not going to record any more music for another year or two.

She said she's not going to record any more music for another year or two.

Maybe her label will wise up, have her lose weight and just make music videos from now on. Perhaps the eventual merger of digital music and television will allow men to watch the quasi-porn videos from pop stars but let them sync it with other music they would rather listen to while they masturbate. I don't want to pitch this invention but I'll take the money from it.
