Sympathy for the Devil (Neptunes) vs. Sympathy for the Devil (Laibach)

Always thought the Laibach version (the "Who Killed the Kennedys" one) was untoppable (even by the Stones). Has it been topped?

the neptunes version sucks

the neptunes version is pretty ... modest, to be diplomatic. too respectful, or lazy.

I think my favorite version may be Bryan Ferry's.

It does sound like the just put it through a Neptuner on a fairly low setting. Ripping it up and making it sound like "Grindin'", now that would be cool.

I like it a lot. Ripping it up would be crap (like Dre's Miss You). There's no point in dropping an acapella over a completely different track. They did a nice subtle retool--put a different bongo pattern in, play up the sitars at the start, and then it takes off halfway through after the acoustic breakdown and the synths come in.

Dre's Miss You is fantastic!

Really? Why?

Ben Williams, Tuesday, 9 September 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

laibach's versions are so much better.
apart from the drum machine preset, what else did the neptunes actually do ? (apart from cash the cheque as soon as)

frenchbloke (frenchbloke), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Aside from the fact that the Neptunes obviously did more than set the drum machine, how much work anybody did on any piece of art has little bearing on its quality.

"How much work did they do on that mashup? Stick it in Acid Pro, match the tempos, fix the pitch... I could do that, mate."
