I'm going to an exhibition at Earls Court on the 26th September, and I really wanted to know if there are any good record stores nearby. Can the London ILM posse help?

fraid you're out of luck there, i'm pretty sure the nearest are in portobello to the east or er, ealing...

Not actually true; there's quite a good shop just off Fulham Broadway called "On Broadway"(would have been better if it had been called "Off Broadway"). Depending on what you want, of course. Me,I want obscure 60s 45s in great condition at decent prices, & it does just fine at that. And the best thing is, no-one knows this shop exists!
Oops, I've just blown it.
Opening times are pretty erratic, mind you.

well, I was looking at least for a nearby Virgin Megastore... ;)

There's a Virgin Megastore at Fulham Broadway but, as with most Virgin Megs, it's pretty rub.

Well, I know On Broadway well, and it is indeed a fine shop but does open very erratically, if at all - generally Friday and Saturdays (bit like Minus Zero). Otherwise I'm afraid you have to leg it up to Portobello paradise... (there used to be a reasonably decent Tower in Kensington High St, but that's long closed down).

Well, thanx for your handy tips.
Marcello: how far is Portobello Rd. from Earls Court on foot? Is there some nearby underground station?

earls court district line to hammersmith then hammersmith and city line up to ladbroke groove

or #9 bus to high street ken and then #52

If you're going to do that you may as well travel ten minutes on the Piccadilly Line to Soho / Covent Garden.

More sensible route: Earls Court district line 2 stops to Notting Hill then walk up Pembridge Road. You also get the scummmy-but-sometimes-worth-it bonus of the Notting Hill Record&Tapes. Sorry, "MVE". Portobello has Rough Trade, Intoxica & Minus Zero/Stand Out!, probably my three fave recordshops in London.

These record shops have CD's as well, right? These aren't STRICTLY vinyl shops, I hope...

Intoxica! is vinyl only, but ROugh Trade, Minus Zero and don't forget Honest Jon's all do CDs, and plenty of 'em.

Bear in mind that the walk up Pembridge Road will take you 10-15 minutes.
