I have the new album.

And the music from the boxed set stuff.

This kid jumped the shark the minute he started reading his own press clippings. Which was, uncoincidentally, about the time he fell for Winona Ryder.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

actually early smiths, with touches of U2 and later moving into chainsaw kittens territory.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

why bother?

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

That line is more Bernard Sumner than M0rrissey, only with less "oh shit I need a rhyme, better throw in a non-sequitur"-ism.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

so it's sort of like the Dears?

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

there's a bit of Joy Division in there I suppose, and I forgot to mention the Church production.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

(also, Mo-I-C was my first instinct but seemed TOO obvious, then I remembered OBVIOUS is RA's middle name)

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

wtf is the point of inverting "I'd stay in your arms" in that line?

J0hn Darn1elle (J0hn Darn1elle), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

It's more english.

teeny (teeny), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Jolly good!

Charles McCain (Charles McCain), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

you mean "Good jolly!"

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

so it's sort of like the Dears?

Ha!

I have grave doubts about this new single. Then again I never liked him anyway.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to kind of like him, and he still surprises me with the odd song, but his hair is too tousled.

Bruce Urquhart (Bruce Urquhart), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan Adams is a hair band.

Horace Mann (Horace Mann), Tuesday, 9 September 2003 18:26 (twenty-two years ago)

What's the rest of the lyrics?

Dandelion, Tuesday, 9 September 2003 19:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Bruce dude!
fyi, hes cut his hair ;)

shut up, Tuesday, 9 September 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I wanna hear the new single, where can I find it?

pal, Tuesday, 9 September 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"Guest appearances by:
Billy Joe Armstrong
PARKER POSEY
Melissa Auf Der Mur"

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 00:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I fuckign love Ryan Adams' music... can't wait, Morrissey sounds good, whatever, just give it to me nowwwww.

Amion Richmond, Wednesday, 10 September 2003 04:12 (twenty-two years ago)

I know a lot of folks on ILM hate him, but I think he's one of the best songwriters around so I can't wait to hear it.

Mark M, Wednesday, 10 September 2003 04:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Ryan Adams was great, including a third of Gold. But damn, the rest of that album (and what I heard of Demolition) was bland.

The Life is Hell EPs sound more interesting to me than the LP. If the people who told him Gold was a great album don't like it, that's a good sign.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 04:38 (twenty-two years ago)

(dan perry won this game, by the way)

will g. (will g.), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

teeny, could you tell us the rest of the lyrics?

Kristen, Wednesday, 10 September 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry, haven't the time to decipher the mumbling!

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I will be interested in this unless it contains the line "sniff deez nutz".

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 10 September 2003 14:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The Clash? darn, miss that band

ryan hoffman, Thursday, 11 September 2003 15:50 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, ryan adam's middle name isn't obvious, it's ryan. but anyway, you can listen to So Alive at www.ryan-adams.com/audio if ya wanna. it's class i think. i love the vocals. and it's a HAPPY upbeat kinda song! but without being overproduced and saccharine. i think it's just right. so there.

Holly Barnes, Sunday, 14 September 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

two weeks pass...
http://www.ryan-adams.com/audio/SoAlive.mp3...that chord progression has been bugging me; help me figure out what song it's ripped off from!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 3 October 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.ryan-adams.com/audio/SoAlive.mp3

I can't save it unless it's posted in a window, so there

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 3 October 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I like his singing on this. Nothing really stands out about it, though. Kinda disappointing, and I didn't even have high hopes.

Sonny A. (Keiko), Friday, 3 October 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

one month passes...
"Wish You were Here" is totally a Replacements song. And yeah, the single is a rewritten "I Will Follow". I really don't know what to think of all of this, but I think he's finally shaken me off of his trail.
