Always remember ...

Anyway, first thing I put on when clock struck midnight in the East? Andrew W.K.'s "I Get Wet." Can't front on the sentiment ...

Hope everyone is good, well or at least contemplative.

Happy birthday Moby!

I know! I can't believe Richard Ashcroft turns 32 on September 11. Bizarre! Happy Birthday Richard!

The fact that 13,000 people have died in Afghanistan and Iraq since 9/11 is at the forefront of my thoughts

Dadaismus (Dada), Thursday, 11 September 2003 13:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Only 13,000?

The fact that 13,000 people have died in Afghanistan and Iraq since 9/11 is at the forefront of my thoughts

Oh how nice for you.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 11 September 2003 13:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Incidentally, I'm not reacting to the inarguable fact that countless innocent Afghanis are dead, but rather to the needlessly smug, self-serving and tastelessly-timed comment from Dadaisms.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 11 September 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

On 11. September 2001 - according to some right-wing sources - the Islamic world tried to kill the Western democracy

On 11. September 1973, the US killed the Chilenean democracy.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 11 September 2003 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

worst thread ever

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Thursday, 11 September 2003 14:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Let's get it together people! The important thing is that we catch these men!

Thanks for putting it in perspective, Geir.

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 11 September 2003 15:58 (twenty-two years ago)

i was standing quarter deck watch during my last few weeks of boot camp when 9 11 happened. heard it on tv, thought it was just a sick saturday night live sketch. it's kinda like the cinderella song, "don't know whatcha got til it's gone", ya know?

ryan hoffman, Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

was looking at the pictures, not to sound naive, but what's wrong with bert, or ernie, i forget his name? but is that just a little comic relief to add humor to a dismal time, or is there something political about bert?

ryan hoffman, Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Ya know, and I'm sorry if it seems insensitive, but who gives a fuck about Chile?

Chris O., Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Okay, given the date today, and the already acknowledged unpleasantness of this thread, and the very likely possibility that absolutely zero good can come out of continuing this conversation any further, can we just all look the other way and let this one die please? That would be really nice.

mark p (Mark P), Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I second that. It wasn't my intention for Bert and Pinochet and smug conspiracy theory anti-Bushism to be introduced here. I just wanted to acknowledge the event on ILM; it's deeply personal to me.

Chris O., Thursday, 11 September 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

So go build a shrine to Bush in yr bedroom or something. I would have liked to see it end after Fritz's post, but don't admonish posters whose views differ from your own and choose to post to your corny "inevitable" thread (which belongs on ILE in the first place).

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, I'm as lefty as anyone else here. But on a music posting board, you'd figure we'd be appropriate enough to keep the posting to musical observation/tribute/etc.

Oh, and ok, that Osama and Bert thing IS funny as hell.

Chris O., Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Not as funny as this.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Thursday, 11 September 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

who gives a fuck about Chile?

Hey, I'm as lefty as anyone else here.

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 11 September 2003 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't know about "lefty," but you sound clueless.

Sam J. (samjeff), Thursday, 11 September 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

this thread sucks but MTV have been showing some very nice short 9/11 themed films all day. one in particular that grabbed me was a dark blue screen with faint lines of text scrolling slowly upwards, they are the names of all the victims and their names light up sporadically in turn. the camera slowly zooms out to reveal the lines of names are in the shape of the two towers, faint and spectral on a Manhattan skyline. i think it was a 3D animation by Simon Davies.

stevem (blueski), Thursday, 11 September 2003 18:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Bit off-topic it is, I agree.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Thursday, 11 September 2003 19:15 (twenty-two years ago)

it's adornos's hundredth birthday today. maybe the only genius in the last century. but you have to be very clever and fluent in german to get him...

Excuse me - what exactly is smug and self-serving about it? If you'd read two years worth of "Warballs" in Private Eye you might understand where I'm coming from

Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 12 September 2003 11:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I took exception to the italicizing of the word "my," as if to call to attention how "in tune" with world events you are.
